Job Overview:
The Video-Maker Consultant position at UNHCR in Rome is designed for skilled video-makers who can produce high-quality media content that aligns with UNHCR's mission of raising awareness and advocating for the rights of refugees and asylum seekers. The consultant will be responsible for creating compelling video stories that highlight the experiences of individuals affected by displacement, ensuring that the narratives are sensitive, ethical, and impactful. The role requires a strong understanding of the humanitarian context and the ability to work under tight deadlines while adhering to UNHCR's guidelines. The consultant will be part of a roster, working closely with the Communications Unit to deliver media products that can be utilized for both local and global outreach.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The primary duties and responsibilities of the Video-Maker Consultant include:
  • Producing edited videos for media placement and UNHCR's website and social media platforms, focusing on human interest and news stories.
  • Delivering video content in three distinct versions: a final version with subtitles and anagraphic layout for Italian channels, a version without subtitles or text, and a version without subtitles, text, or music, ensuring compliance with UNHCR's photo guidelines.
  • Providing detailed metadata for all footage in accordance with UNHCR standards.
  • Collaborating with the Communications Unit to ensure that all video content aligns with UNHCR's messaging and branding.
  • Maintaining confidentiality regarding sensitive information related to asylum seekers and refugees, as per UNHCR's Code of Conduct.
  • Ensuring that all produced materials are credited appropriately and that copyright ownership is respected, with prior written authorization required for any external use of the content.

Required Qualifications:
Essential qualifications for the Video-Maker Consultant include:
  • A strong portfolio showcasing previous work in video production, particularly in contexts related to refugees and migration.
  • Demonstrated technical skills in video editing and production, with an artistic and ethical approach to storytelling.
  • Evidence of prior experience in humanitarian settings, highlighting familiarity with sensitive contexts. Desirable qualifications include:
  • Over 4 years of progressively responsible technical experience in video production, with recognized expertise in the field.
  • A proven track record of excellence, supported by awards or professional recognition.
  • Experience working with UN agencies, international NGOs, or government entities, demonstrating the ability to deliver high-quality results in complex environments.

Educational Background:
The position requires a relevant educational background in media production, film, communications, or a related field. Candidates should possess a strong understanding of video production techniques, storytelling, and the ethical considerations involved in working with vulnerable populations. Additional certifications in video editing software or media production may be advantageous.

Experience:
Candidates should have a minimum of 4 years of experience in video production, with a focus on humanitarian issues, refugees, or migration. Experience working in high-pressure environments and delivering projects on tight deadlines is essential. Familiarity with UNHCR's mission and values, as well as previous work with international organizations, is highly desirable.

Languages:
The mandatory language requirement for this position is proficiency in English and Italian.   • The daily fee for this position is set at 300 Euros, with additional travel costs covered when missions are required. Inclusion in the roster does not guarantee a contract, as UNHCR retains discretion over contract decisions based on operational needs.
