Job Overview:

The intern will support initiatives related to youth and adolescent participation and leadership, particularly through programs like AfriYAN, United Movement, and Youth Power Hub. This role is crucial for fostering youth engagement in health, education, and development, and it aims to empower young leaders by providing them with professional opportunities and skill-building experiences. The intern will work closely with the Adolescent and Youth Team Leader and the programme specialist to contribute to various projects and initiatives that align with UNFPA's strategic goals.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The intern will be responsible for a variety of tasks aimed at enhancing youth participation and engagement. Key responsibilities include:

• Assisting in the design and organization of youth-led events, both virtual and in-person.
• Collaborating with youth-led organizations to disseminate UNFPA's messaging effectively.
• Contributing to resource mobilization proposals for youth programming.
• Supporting the Communications Unit in creating and distributing communication materials, including social media content and newsletters.
• Building capacity and providing linkages with existing networks and programs at the continental level.
• Generating knowledge and sharing best practices related to youth empowerment.
• Establishing a roster of youth consultants and regional engagement mechanisms.
• Mapping and creating a dashboard of youth-led innovations across the region.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must meet several qualifications to be eligible for the internship. These include a demonstrated interest in development, particularly in SRHR, and the ability to adapt to diverse environments. Candidates should possess strong analytical and writing skills, initiative, and sound judgment. Additionally, they should have some experience working with development agencies, even in a volunteer capacity. Fluency in English is mandatory, and knowledge of other languages is considered an asset. Candidates must also be between 18 and 35 years old.

Educational Background:
The educational requirements for this internship include at least a Bachelor's degree in a relevant field such as international development, public health, women or gender studies, or population and development. Enrollment in a postgraduate degree program in a related field is advantageous. Candidates should ideally start the internship within a few years of graduation to ensure they are up-to-date with current practices and knowledge in the field.

Experience:
The position requires candidates to have some experience in the development sector, which can include volunteer work or internships with development agencies.
