Job Overview:
The director" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">Deputy Director, Strategy, Planning & Management for Digital Public Infrastructure (DDSPM) plays a pivotal role in the newly formed Digital Public Infrastructure team within the Global Growth & Opportunity (GGO) division. This position is responsible for overseeing the strategic, financial, and operational dimensions of the team, acting as an advisor to the director and other leadership members, and ensuring alignment between the team’s strategic objectives and business operations. The DDSPM will engage in complex problem-solving within a start-up environment, collaboratively developing solutions that can lead to transformative changes in the lives of individuals globally. This role requires a blend of senior strategy, management, and global development expertise to guide decision-making at various levels, including portfolio, initiative, and investment levels. The position also involves leading a small team of business and operations professionals to ensure effective strategy execution, process improvements, and the development of a strong team culture.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The DDSPM will be responsible for several key areas, including:
  • Strategy Development: Collaborate with the team to define and articulate strategic priorities, refine the theory of change, and lead strategic exploration processes.
  • Performance Tracking: Monitor performance against established frameworks, identify risks, and partner with leadership to ensure successful outcomes.
  • Content Development: Lead the creation of materials for strategy meetings and learning sessions, working closely with the Director and program staff.
  • Annual Strategy Review: Oversee the annual strategy review process, including the articulation of strategic priorities and execution plans.
  • Operations Management: Partner with program managers on annual planning processes, budget allocations, and investment management.
  • Relationship Management: Develop and maintain strong partnerships within and outside the organization, manage conflicts, and build consensus.
  • Team Development: Lead the Strategy, Planning, and Management staff, promoting team effectiveness and culture.
  • Cross-Foundation Initiatives: Support cross-foundation learning and contribute to continuous improvement efforts.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a minimum of 10 years of experience in international business strategy, business development, or general management, ideally gained in top-tier management consulting firms or large international organizations. The ideal candidate will have a proven track record in strategy development and implementation, as well as experience in designing performance management systems. Additional qualifications include strong systems thinking, structured problem-solving skills, and the ability to manage teams effectively. Candidates should also demonstrate action-oriented leadership, excellent communication skills, and the ability to navigate complex organizational structures.

Educational Background:
A relevant educational background is essential for this role, typically including a graduate degree in business administration, international development, or a related field. Candidates with advanced degrees or specialized training in strategy, management, or global development will be preferred.

Experience:
The position requires extensive experience, with a minimum of 10 years in roles that demonstrate increasing responsibility and leadership. Experience in international business strategy, business development, or general management is crucial, along with a strong understanding of digital development domains and international development issues, particularly in regions such as Sub-Saharan Africa and India.

Languages:
While the primary language for this position is English, proficiency in additional languages relevant to the Foundation's global operations would be advantageous. Candidates who can communicate effectively in multiple languages will be viewed favorably, as this enhances collaboration in diverse cultural contexts.

Additional Notes:
This is a full-time position based in Seattle, WA, with a flexible hybrid work schedule requiring in-office attendance 50% of the time. Relocation benefits are available for candidates who do not currently reside in the Greater Seattle area. The salary range for this role is between $238,400 and $369,400 USD, with adjustments for high-wage market differences in Seattle and Washington D.C. New hires typically start between the minimum and midpoint of the salary range, depending on their skills and experience. Candidates must have unrestricted work authorization in the United States, as the Foundation does not provide immigration-related sponsorship for this role.
