The intern will work under the direct supervision of the UNIC’s Director and/or the National Information Officer (NIO), contributing to various communication initiatives aimed at enhancing public understanding of the UN's work in Mexico, Cuba, and the Dominican Republic. The role involves assisting in the development and implementation of communication strategies, promoting key UN initiatives, and supporting efforts to combat misinformation. This internship provides a unique opportunity to engage with diverse stakeholders and contribute to meaningful projects that align with the UN's goals.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The intern will be responsible for a range of duties, including but not limited to: assisting in the development and implementation of a communications plan for the UN Mexico Results Report; contributing to the dissemination and promotion of the SDG Book Club, Mexico Chapter; supporting the design and implementation of a plan to promote Information Integrity in Mexico; monitoring misinformation trends and potential reputational risks for the UN; contributing to inter-agency initiatives aimed at combating misinformation and hate speech; supporting the creation and maintenance of a database of communities of practice related to the UNSDCF and Information Integrity; conducting a needs assessment of the UN Communications Group capacities; developing communication tools and training materials; creating public information content for various platforms; and performing other related tasks as required.

Required Qualifications:
Applicants must meet one of the following requirements: (a) be enrolled in, or have completed, a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); or (b) be enrolled in, or have completed, the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum bachelor's degree or equivalent). The ideal candidate should have a background in social sciences, journalism, communications, audiovisual communications, social media management, marketing, advertising, multimedia production, or related fields. Strong communication skills and a passion for international development and public service are essential.

Educational Background:
Candidates should possess a relevant educational background, which includes being enrolled in or having completed a graduate program or the final year of an undergraduate program. Fields of study should be related to social sciences, journalism, communications, or other relevant disciplines that equip the intern with the necessary skills to contribute effectively to the UN's communication efforts.

Experience:
While prior professional experience is not mandatory, any relevant internships, volunteer work, or academic projects that demonstrate a commitment to communications, public relations, or social advocacy will be considered an asset. The internship is designed for individuals who are eager to learn and gain hands-on experience in a dynamic international environment.

Languages:
Fluency in oral and written Spanish is required for this position, as it is one of the working languages of the UN Secretariat. Additionally, fluency in English is desirable, as it will facilitate communication within the UN system and with international stakeholders.

This internship is unpaid, and interns are responsible for covering their own costs related to travel, visas, accommodation, and living expenses. Interns who are not citizens or permanent residents of Mexico may need to obtain the appropriate visa and work authorization. It is important for successful candidates to discuss their specific visa requirements before accepting the internship offer. The internship is expected to last for 6 months, requiring full-time commitment of 35 hours per week. The United Nations does not charge any fees at any stage of the recruitment process.
