Job Overview: The Senior Programme Assistant will play a crucial role in supporting the UNESCO Institute for Information Technologies in Education (IITE) in advancing its Education for Health and Well-being (EHWB) agenda in Central Asia and Eastern Europe. The incumbent will work under the overall supervision of the Director of UNESCO IITE and the direct supervision of the Chief of ICT in Health Education Unit (ICTHE). The position involves overseeing and coordinating various programme and project management activities, ensuring effective planning and implementation of EHWB projects that focus on both non-formal and formal health and well-being education. The role requires collaboration with the ICTHE team, as well as colleagues from the UNESCO Regional Office in Almaty and the Health and Education Section at UNESCO Headquarters. The Senior Programme Assistant will be responsible for integrating AI and ICT-powered tools into educational practices, promoting youth awareness and empowerment in the digital space, and preventing violence and bullying through educational initiatives. This position demands a proactive approach to research and knowledge management, assisting in data collection and analysis, and contributing to the development of educational resources and platforms. The Senior Programme Assistant will also coordinate knowledge-sharing activities, workshops, and events, ensuring effective communication and visibility of the projects undertaken by UNESCO IITE.
Duties and Responsibilities: The duties and responsibilities of the Senior Programme Assistant include: overseeing and coordinating programme/project management and implementation support activities for IITE projects; supporting effective planning and implementation of EHWB projects; coordinating activities aimed at preventing violence, bullying, and cyberbullying; providing technical support for integrating psycho-social and emotional well-being into health education; assisting in research and knowledge management related to non-formal education on health and well-being; preparing and updating multilanguage versions of educational platforms and materials; proofreading documents and providing informal translation; assisting in the development of project concepts, workplans, and contractual agreements; organizing knowledge-sharing and awareness-raising activities, including workshops and webinars; preparing communication materials in line with UNESCO guidelines; providing logistical and administrative support for programme implementation; and performing other work-related assignments as directed by supervisors.
Required Qualifications: The required qualifications for the Senior Programme Assistant position include a university degree (Bachelor’s degree or equivalent) in social sciences, humanities, education, media and communications, international development, or other relevant fields. Candidates must possess a minimum of 5 years of relevant working experience in providing technical and organizational support for project/programme management, including planning, design, budgeting, implementation, monitoring, and reporting, preferably with UN agencies. Experience in the field of media and/or communications in Eastern Europe and Central Asia is also required. Candidates should demonstrate excellent planning, organizational, implementation, and coordination skills, along with strong analytical abilities and the capacity to handle complex situations effectively. Professional integrity, tact, diplomacy, and good judgment are essential, as well as excellent interpersonal and communication skills, including strong drafting and reviewing capabilities.
Educational Background: Candidates must hold a university degree (Bachelor’s degree or equivalent) in relevant fields such as social sciences, humanities, education, media and communications, or international development. This educational background is essential for understanding the complexities of project management and the integration of ICT in educational settings, particularly in relation to health and well-being education.
Experience: The position requires a minimum of 5 years of relevant working experience in project/programme management, including technical and organizational support. Candidates should have experience in planning, design, budgeting, implementation, monitoring, and reporting, preferably within UN agencies. Experience in media and communications, particularly in the context of Eastern Europe and Central Asia, is highly desirable, as it will contribute to the effective execution of the role's responsibilities.
Languages: Excellent knowledge of written and spoken English and Russian is required for this position. Proficiency in both languages is essential for effective communication and collaboration with stakeholders, as well as for the preparation of educational materials and resources. Additional language skills may be considered an asset, particularly if they are relevant to the target audience of the projects.
Additional Notes: This position is a full-time assignment under the UNESCO Service Contract modality, with a contract duration of 8 months, subject to extension based on performance and availability of funds. The estimated monthly salary for this position is approximately 163,570 RUB. UNESCO will also contribute to pension and medical insurance, with contributions up to a maximum of 10% and 5% of remuneration, respectively, upon proof of enrollment in relevant schemes. Service Contract holders are entitled to paid annual leave, sick leave, and other benefits. The selection process may include pre-recorded video interviews, written assessments, and reference checks.
