Job Overview:
As the Communications Officer for Social Media & Community Management, you will play a crucial role in shaping the foundation's social media presence and community engagement strategies. Reporting to the Senior Manager, Digital Strategist, you will be responsible for developing and implementing platform-specific social media strategies that align with the foundation's broader communications goals. Your expertise in managing social channels and creating compelling content will be essential in building and engaging audiences. You will work closely with creative teams and external vendors to ensure that the content is optimized for each channel and resonates with diverse audiences. Your role will also involve monitoring social media interactions, fostering meaningful conversations, and ensuring that the foundation's messaging is consistent and aligned with its mission. You will be expected to stay updated on social media trends and audience behaviors to inform your strategies and improve community interactions.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Develop and implement social media strategies that align with the foundation's overall communications goals.
  • Manage day-to-day operations of priority social media channels, including content planning, caption writing, and creative production.
  • Collaborate with internal teams and external agencies to create channel-specific content.
  • Monitor and engage with comments and mentions on social media to foster two-way conversations.
  • Define community guidelines and engagement protocols for responding to inquiries.
  • Provide insights on audience engagement and sentiment to inform social media strategies.
  • Assess the need for external moderation or engagement partners and manage vendor relationships as necessary.
  • Uphold the foundation's brand integrity by managing sensitive topics and ensuring accurate responses.
  • Stay informed about social media trends and cultural moments to enhance audience engagement. 1
  • Collaborate with various teams to ensure consistent messaging across all platforms.

Required Qualifications:
  • At least 5 years of experience managing online communities or engaging with public audiences for large organizations, media outlets, or global NGOs.
  • Proven success in engaging with the public on social media, particularly around complex global issues.
  • Strong understanding of social media environments and algorithms.
  • Exceptional judgment and diplomacy in handling sensitive topics.
  • Ability to adapt communication styles for different platforms and audiences.
  • Experience in crisis management and understanding of reputational risk management.
  • Familiarity with global health issues, including poverty and education.
  • Experience with social listening tools and engagement platforms.

Educational Background:
A bachelor's degree in communications, marketing, public relations, or a related field is typically required. Advanced degrees or certifications in social media management or digital marketing may be preferred.

Experience:
Candidates should have a minimum of 5 years of relevant experience in social media management, community engagement, or communications within a nonprofit or corporate setting. Experience in managing high-visibility accounts and engaging with diverse audiences is essential.

Languages:
Fluency in English is mandatory. Proficiency in additional languages is a plus and may enhance the ability to engage with a broader audience.

This position is based in Seattle, Washington, and candidates must be legally authorized to work in the United States without visa sponsorship. The salary range for this role is between $157,400 to $236,000 USD, with higher ranges for specific locations such as Seattle and Washington D.C. The foundation is committed to balancing competitive pay with its mission-driven goals. New hire salaries are typically set between the minimum and midpoint of the salary range, depending on the candidate's skills and experience.
