Job Overview: The Business Process Support Officer position within CERN's Continuous Improvement team is designed for individuals interested in enhancing process improvement initiatives across the organization. Duties and Responsibilities: The duties and responsibilities of the Business Process Support Officer include participating in the sourcing, generation, processing, selection, and follow-up of process improvement ideas. The officer will assist in designing process improvement projects by documenting administrative and operational needs, identifying value, and creating detailed process maps, workflow diagrams, and project plans that can deliver and measure improvement. Additionally, the officer will support project implementation efforts by monitoring progress, collecting and analyzing performance data, and documenting results. Analyzing market, industry, or internal data to identify or benchmark trends and insights is also a key responsibility. The officer will contribute to and develop communication strategies and content to provoke project ideas and promote a continuous improvement culture. Organizing and co-facilitating training sessions and developing training materials on process improvement methodologies are also part of the role. The officer may be required to carry out any other tasks related to the Continuous Improvement team's work as needed.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must demonstrate a strong interest in process improvement and methodologies such as LEAN and Six Sigma. Familiarity with tools like Excel, SQL, or data visualization platforms (e.g., Tableau, Power BI) is essential. Basic knowledge of project management principles, business analysis techniques (e.g., Agile/Scrum), and business tools (e.g., Jira, Confluence, Trello) is also required. The ability to create training materials, deliver presentations, and facilitate workshops is highly valued. Strong problem-solving and critical thinking skills, along with solid research, analytical, documentation, process design, and communication skills, are necessary for success in this role. Candidates should possess excellent organizational skills and a methodical approach to work, including the ability to prepare for and attend meetings, capture discussions and decisions, and assist in follow-up activities.
Educational Background: Applicants must hold a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Business, Management, IT, or a related field. Candidates without a university degree are not eligible for this position, and those with a PhD are also not eligible. The educational background should provide a solid foundation for understanding business processes and improvement methodologies.
Experience: Candidates should have a maximum of two years of professional experience since graduation in a relevant field. This experience should ideally involve exposure to process improvement initiatives or related activities, allowing the candidate to bring practical insights into the role.
Languages: Proficiency in spoken and written English or French is mandatory, with a commitment to learn the basics of the other language. This bilingual requirement is essential for effective communication within the diverse international environment at CERN.
Additional Notes: The position is fully onsite and offers a contract duration of 24 months, with the possibility of extension up to a maximum of 36 months. The working hours are set at 40 hours per week, and the target start date for the role is July 1, 202
The job reference for this position is OSI-ICS-2026-58-GRAE. The compensation includes a monthly stipend ranging from 5,266 to 5,793 Swiss Francs, which is tax-free, along with 30 days of paid leave per year and additional benefits such as comprehensive health insurance coverage, family allowances, and a relocation package depending on individual circumstances. On-the-job and formal training, including language classes, will also be provided.
