The Data Governance Specialist will play a crucial role in supporting the implementation of the Data Transformation Initiative at UNICEF. This position requires a skilled professional who can champion good governance practices and provide technical advice on data governance initiatives. The specialist will be responsible for overseeing key data assets, ensuring data quality, and managing data architecture. Duties and Responsibilities:
Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a strong understanding of data governance, data architecture, and emerging data technologies, including artificial intelligence. They should have excellent communication skills to engage with both technical and non-technical audiences. The ability to support organizational change and promote data fluency is essential. Candidates should also demonstrate strong analytical skills and a proactive approach to problem-solving.
Educational Background:
A Master’s degree or equivalent in Information Management, Computer Science, Data Management, Data Governance, Information Technology, Data Science, Data Analytics, Artificial Intelligence, Engineering, or related fields is required. A Bachelor’s degree in a relevant area combined with two additional years of relevant work experience may be accepted in lieu of an advanced degree. Additionally, a certification as a 'Certified Data Management Professional (CDMP)' is mandatory for this position.
Experience:
Candidates should have at least five years of relevant work experience in implementing data governance programs. This experience should include a strong background in data management practices and familiarity with data cataloging and metadata management. Experience in international development, particularly within UNICEF or similar organizations, is highly desirable. Candidates with experience in emergency or humanitarian contexts will have an advantage.
Languages:
Fluency in English, both spoken and written, is required for this position. Working knowledge of other UN languages such as Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian, and Spanish is considered an advantage, enhancing the candidate's ability to communicate in a diverse environment.
