The intern will work on-site at the Guatemala office, contributing to the implementation of the communication strategy and enhancing the visibility of UN initiatives in the country. The role is crucial in promoting key issues related to the UN System, particularly those that involve multiple agencies, with the overarching goal of achieving defined outcomes in the UN's Strategic Cooperation Framework for Sustainable Development. The intern will assist in producing content, coordinating initiatives, and ensuring effective dissemination of information regarding the UN's work in Guatemala. This position offers a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience in communication within an international organization, while also contributing to meaningful development efforts.
Duties and Responsibilities: The intern will be responsible for a variety of tasks aimed at supporting the communication efforts of the OCR. Key responsibilities include:
Developing a monthly work plan that outlines activities and objectives during the internship.
Regularly attending the office on agreed days and times, participating in a hybrid work model that includes both in-person and virtual attendance.
Reviewing the weekly public activities program to stay informed about upcoming events.
Coordinating transportation requests through the UN Mobility system for colleagues attending public activities.
Capturing photographs during public events to document activities.
Recording videos at events and producing video content for UN Guatemala's social media platforms.
Updating the Flickr storage for UN Guatemala with relevant images.
Creating artistic photography for use in publications.
Assisting with live event broadcasts on YouTube. All activities must align with the communication department's calendar and the inter-agency communication group (GICI).
Required Qualifications: Candidates should ideally be students or professionals in communication, advertising, journalism, or audiovisual production. Desirable skills include proficiency in photography and experience with video and photo editing software. A bachelor's degree or advanced university studies in a related field is preferred. Applicants are not required to have prior professional work experience, but they must have a field of study closely related to the internship. Candidates must also demonstrate good knowledge of standard software applications, particularly MS Word, MS PowerPoint, and MS Teams. The ability to draft news articles and social media posts is advantageous, as is the capability to design surveys and polls.
Educational Background: Applicants must be in their final year of a bachelor's degree program (or equivalent), or have completed a bachelor's, master's, or Ph.D. program. Proof of enrollment or completion must be provided with the application. The internship is open to students from various educational backgrounds, particularly those related to communication and media.
Experience: While prior professional experience is not mandatory for this internship, candidates should have relevant academic experience or coursework that aligns with the responsibilities of the position.
