The intern will work under the supervision of the Development Coordination Officer/Economist of the OCR, contributing to the analysis of economic indicators and socio-economic data that are essential for planning, implementing, monitoring, and communicating the results of the UNS. The intern will be involved in various tasks that require analytical skills and a good understanding of economic concepts, particularly in the context of feminist economics and macroeconomics. The role is expected to last between 2 to 6 months, providing a valuable opportunity for hands-on experience in a UN setting.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The intern will be responsible for several key tasks, including:
  • Developing a work plan in coordination with their supervisor.
  • Supporting the collection, systematization, and analysis of socio-economic information, including literature and macroeconomic, social, and development data.
  • Preparing a working paper under supervision that examines the impact of investment in the care sector on macroeconomic variables in Guatemala.
  • Performing other related tasks as assigned within the framework of the internship objectives. These responsibilities will provide the intern with practical experience in economic analysis and research methodologies relevant to sustainable development.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates should ideally possess knowledge of economics, particularly feminist economics (care issues) and macroeconomics. Experience in using statistical programs is also desirable. The intern should demonstrate analytical skills, data management and visualization capabilities, technical writing proficiency, and sensitivity to development, gender, and public policy contexts. A master's degree in economics is preferred but not mandatory.

Educational Background:
The ideal candidate should have a background in economics, with a preference for those who have completed or are pursuing a master's degree in the field. This educational background will provide the necessary theoretical foundation to engage with the economic analyses required in the internship.

Experience:
While specific prior experience may not be mandatory, candidates with experience in economic research, data analysis, or related fields will be favored. Familiarity with statistical software and analytical tools will enhance the candidate's ability to perform the tasks effectively.

Languages:
Fluency in Spanish, both oral and written, is required for the internship. Knowledge of English is necessary, with basic proficiency being acceptable. French is also recognized as a working language of the United Nations, but it is not mandatory for this position. The ability to communicate effectively in Spanish is crucial for the intern's success in this role.
