Job Overview:
The Specialized Communications Officer will play a crucial role in enhancing the visibility and reputation of WFP through specialized communications activities. This position involves developing communications products and campaigns that support fundraising efforts and maintain WFP's public image. The officer will be responsible for coordinating communications processes, liaising with media, and ensuring that WFP's messages are effectively communicated to target audiences. The role requires a proactive approach to managing communications strategies and adapting to the dynamic environment in which WFP operates, particularly in response to emergencies and crises. The officer will also be expected to contribute to the development of innovative communication methods that resonate with diverse stakeholders and enhance WFP's outreach.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Coordinate and deliver specialized communications processes and activities to support the timely preparation and execution of communications campaigns for target audiences.
  • Liaise with media and other key constituents, ensuring a regular flow of information and messages regarding WFP activities, policies, and operations.
  • Plan and coordinate events, ensuring the availability of appropriate services, equipment, and materials.
  • Provide specialized support for the production of video, photographic, and radio projects.
  • Monitor traditional and social media, reporting relevant information to senior staff to inform communication strategies.
  • Prepare content for traditional and social media platforms to enhance coverage of WFP’s activities.
  • Research and assist in developing content for media platforms, ensuring cost-effectiveness and consistency with corporate messages.
  • Promote communications guidelines to ensure adherence to core procedures and policies.
  • Maintain accurate records and databases of communications activities. 1
  • Manage inquiries from stakeholders, providing timely and appropriate responses. 1
  • Develop and maintain relationships with stakeholders to ensure coherent communications processes. 1
  • Contribute to improving communication methods and processes to increase awareness of WFP’s work.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a strong understanding of WFP communication techniques and the socio-political context in which WFP operates. Experience in providing coaching or training to new staff members is highly desirable. The role requires a proactive individual who can work independently and demonstrate initiative in managing communications activities. Strong organizational skills and the ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously are essential.

Educational Background:
The minimum educational requirement for this position is the completion of secondary school education, along with a post-secondary certificate in a related functional area. This educational background provides the foundational knowledge necessary for effective communication in a humanitarian context.

Experience:
Candidates should have demonstrated experience in communications, particularly within humanitarian or development contexts. A strong understanding of communication strategies and the ability to adapt to changing environments is crucial. Experience in emergency response communications is an asset, as the role may involve supporting WFP's emergency response activities.

Languages:
Fluency in both oral and written communication in English is mandatory. Proficiency in additional languages relevant to the Caribbean region would be considered an asset, enhancing the ability to communicate with diverse stakeholders.
