Job Overview: The Project Officer for the CORE Group Polio Project (CGPP) will play a crucial role in managing the CRS scope of work for the project in Marsabit County. This position serves as the primary technical liaison between CRS and the MOH, ensuring that CGPP activities are executed in accordance with both international and national standards. The Project Officer will be responsible for overseeing the implementation of project activities, providing technical assistance, mentorship, and support supervision to the MOH. The role requires a strong focus on collaboration with government structures at various levels to ensure effective program delivery and to contribute to the ongoing response to polio outbreaks. The Project Officer will also be tasked with monitoring project progress, identifying challenges, and facilitating capacity-building initiatives within the MOH and other stakeholders.
Duties and Responsibilities: The Project Officer will support the coordination and implementation of all assigned project activities as outlined in the detailed implementation plan, ensuring alignment with CRS program quality principles, donor requirements, and best practices. Key responsibilities include monitoring project activities, reporting challenges, assisting the MOH in project evaluations, and collecting and analyzing project data. The Project Officer will also identify capacity-building needs, support technical assistance activities, compile project documentation, and maintain relationships with relevant government ministries and stakeholders. Additionally, the role involves strengthening the capacity of the MOH and other partners, staying updated on developments in polio and immunization, and participating in technical working groups and forums.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess strong observation, active listening, and analytical skills, with the ability to make sound judgments. Good relationship management skills are essential, as the Project Officer will work closely with the MOH, local partners, and community members. Attention to detail, accuracy, and timeliness in executing responsibilities are critical. The ideal candidate should be proactive, results-oriented, and service-oriented, demonstrating a commitment to the mission and values of CRS.
Educational Background: A Bachelor’s Degree in Epidemiology, Public Health, Veterinary Medicine, Medicine, Nursing, or a related field is required. A Master’s Degree in these fields or graduation from the Field Epidemiology and Laboratory Training Program (FELTP) is considered an advantage. This educational background is essential for understanding the complexities of public health issues and the technical aspects of disease surveillance and immunization.
Experience: Candidates should have practical experience in disease surveillance, immunization, zoonotic diseases, outbreak investigation, and social mobilization. Experience in participatory action planning and community engagement is also important. A thorough understanding of public health issues, epidemiological principles, and surveillance systems is necessary. Experience in monitoring projects and collecting relevant data is preferred, along with proficiency in MS Windows and MS Office applications (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
Languages: Fluency in English is mandatory for this position. Proficiency in additional languages may be considered an asset, particularly if it enhances communication with local communities and stakeholders.
Additional Notes: This position may require 50% travel to field sites within Marsabit County. The role does not involve supervisory responsibilities.
