Job Overview:
The Logistician is responsible for managing logistics at their assigned base, ensuring compliance with donor and SI procedures. This role involves implementing and supervising all logistics operations, organizing logistic support for programs, and assisting the field coordinator in enforcing safety rules. The Logistician also plays a crucial role in supporting, monitoring, and training team members. Given the ongoing conflict in Sudan, the mission has seen a significant increase in activities and funding, transitioning from an emergency phase to a more structured approach. The Logistician will face challenges such as high humanitarian needs and the risk of famine, particularly in the volatile context of Darfur. The first few months will focus on launching emergency response projects, recruiting and training new staff, and establishing a sub-base in Zalingei.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Logistician's duties include managing logistics operations at the base, ensuring compliance with SI and donor procedures, organizing logistics support for various programs, and overseeing the procurement, supplies, and storage processes. They will also be responsible for training and managing logistics team members, implementing safety protocols, and adapting to the rapidly changing context of humanitarian needs. The Logistician will coordinate with other teams to ensure effective logistics support for emergency response activities, including water trucking, hygiene kit distribution, and construction of sanitation facilities. They will also be involved in assessing logistics needs for new projects and ensuring that all operations are conducted efficiently and effectively under pressure.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in a relevant field such as business or international relations. They should have 3-4 years of experience in the humanitarian sector, particularly in a similar logistics role. Strong experience in procurement, supplies, and storage in conflict areas is essential, along with experience in scaling up base operations and managing teams in volatile contexts. Candidates should demonstrate adaptability, strong initiative, and the ability to work under pressure.

Educational Background:
A Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in a related field is required. This educational background should provide a solid foundation in business practices, international relations, or a similar discipline relevant to logistics and humanitarian operations.

Experience:
The position requires 3-4 years of relevant experience in the humanitarian sector, specifically in logistics management. Candidates should have a proven track record in procurement and supply chain management within conflict zones, as well as experience in team management and capacity building.

Languages:
Fluency in English is mandatory. Proficiency in French is considered an advantage, while knowledge of Arabic is a strong asset that would enhance the candidate's suitability for the role.

  • The position is based in Geneina, Sudan, and involves working in a highly volatile security context. The salary starts from EUR 2310 gross per month, which includes a base salary and an annual leave allowance. Additionally, a monthly per diem of USD 750 is provided, along with accommodation and travel expenses covered by SI. The organization implements a break system, allowing for time off every three months, and provides a comprehensive insurance package covering healthcare expenses and essential vaccinations. Living conditions include simple guest house accommodations with basic amenities, and the security situation is described as very volatile, with limited movement allowed.
