Job Overview: The Senior Statistics and Data Analysis Associate plays a crucial role in enhancing the quality, coherence, and utilization of data and analytical products within UNHCR Armenia. This position is designed as a multidisciplinary role that combines information management, statistical analysis, and analytical product development to support evidence-based decision-making, program implementation, and policy dialogue. The incumbent will focus on improving the availability, quality, analysis, and presentation of refugee-related data, translating datasets into actionable analytical products for operational planning, programming, and advocacy. The role requires a strong understanding of statistical methodologies, data management, and the ability to communicate complex analytical findings effectively to both technical and non-technical audiences.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Data, Information Management and Analytical Support: Contribute to UNHCR country data strategies by providing statistical and analytical inputs to planning and advocacy. Manage and clean datasets from various sources to support analytical work. Develop and maintain analytical products, including dashboards and written analyses.
Statistical and Analytical Products: Transform raw datasets into structured analytical products, including statistical briefs and dashboards. Conduct descriptive and inferential statistical analysis to generate insights for planning and programming.
Surveys, Assessments, and Official Statistics: Support the design and implementation of surveys and assessments, ensuring methodological consistency and compliance with organizational guidance.
Coordination, Partnerships, and Capacity Support: Engage with government counterparts and partners on data collection and analysis activities. Participate in inter-agency coordination mechanisms related to statistics and assessments.
Other Duties: Provide ad-hoc support to monitoring and evaluation processes, including indicator tracking and analytical inputs.
Required Qualifications: The position requires a Bachelor’s degree or higher in fields such as Economics, Statistics, or Data Science. Candidates must have at least five years of professional experience in data or statistical fields, including significant experience in data analysis and transforming data into analytical products. Demonstrated experience with national and/or international statistical systems is essential, along with practical experience in data collection methodologies and familiarity with statistical tools such as R, Python, or SPSS. Strong communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively with various stakeholders are also required.
Educational Background: Candidates must possess a Bachelor’s degree or higher in relevant fields such as Economics, Statistics, Data Science, or related disciplines. Advanced degrees are preferred and may enhance the candidate's profile. Relevant certifications in data management or statistical analysis are also beneficial.
Experience: Candidates should have a minimum of five years of relevant work experience in data or statistical fields. This experience should include significant involvement in data analysis, familiarity with national and international statistical systems, and practical experience in data collection methodologies. Experience in humanitarian or development contexts is highly desirable, as is the ability to translate operational needs into technical guidance for data collection and analysis.
Languages: Fluency in both English and Eastern Armenian is mandatory for this position. Knowledge of Russian or other UN languages is considered an asset and may enhance the candidate's qualifications.
Additional Notes: This is a full-time position requiring physical presence in the office in Yerevan, Armenia. The contract is a Local Individual Contract at the NOA level, based on UNHCR's standard job description. The candidate must be legally present and have the right to work in Armenia, as UNHCR will not sponsor residency or work permits. The suggested monthly fee will be determined based on the UN Common System salary scale in Armenia, and payment will be made in Armenian Drams (AMD). UNHCR does not charge any fees at any stage of the recruitment process, and only shortlisted candidates will be contacted for interviews.
