Job Overview: This consultancy assignment is focused on addressing environmental issues and disaster risk management in the Dominican Republic. The consultant will be expected to provide expert advice and support in the development and implementation of strategies aimed at enhancing the country's resilience to environmental challenges and disasters. Duties and Responsibilities: The consultant will be responsible for the following duties and responsibilities:
Conduct a comprehensive assessment of the current environmental and disaster risk management policies in the Dominican Republic.
Identify key challenges and opportunities for improving disaster resilience at the national and local levels.
Develop a set of recommendations for enhancing the existing frameworks and policies related to environmental management and disaster risk reduction.
Facilitate workshops and consultations with stakeholders to gather input and feedback on proposed strategies.
Prepare detailed reports and presentations summarizing findings, recommendations, and stakeholder feedback.
Collaborate with UNDP and other partners to ensure alignment with national development goals and international best practices.
Monitor and evaluate the implementation of recommended strategies and provide ongoing support as needed.
Required Qualifications: The ideal candidate for this consultancy assignment should possess the following qualifications:
Advanced degree in environmental science, disaster risk management, public policy, or a related field.
Proven experience in environmental management and disaster risk reduction, preferably in the context of developing countries.
Strong analytical skills and the ability to synthesize complex information into actionable recommendations.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage effectively with diverse stakeholders.
Familiarity with UNDP's policies and procedures is an asset.
Demonstrated ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks effectively under tight deadlines.
Educational Background: Candidates must have an advanced degree (Master's or equivalent) in a relevant field such as environmental science, disaster risk management, public policy, or a related discipline. A Ph.D. in a relevant area would be considered an advantage, particularly for candidates with extensive research experience in environmental issues or disaster risk management.
Experience: The consultant should have a minimum of 5 years of professional experience in environmental management, disaster risk reduction, or related fields. Experience working with international organizations, government agencies, or NGOs in the Dominican Republic or similar contexts is highly desirable. Proven track record of successfully managing consultancy assignments or projects related to environmental and disaster risk management is essential.
Languages: Fluency in both English and Spanish is mandatory, as the Terms of Reference (ToR) are available in both languages. Knowledge of additional languages relevant to the Dominican Republic or the Caribbean region would be considered an asset, enhancing the consultant's ability to engage with a broader range of stakeholders.
Additional Notes: This consultancy assignment is expected to be conducted remotely, with potential travel to the Dominican Republic as necessary for stakeholder consultations and workshops. The contract duration will be specified in the Terms of Reference, and the consultant will be compensated based on the agreed terms outlined in the contract.
