The OICT is responsible for defining the strategic direction for Information and Communications Technology (ICT) within the United Nations Secretariat. It oversees ICT programs, systems, applications, and decision-making processes, ensuring that colleagues worldwide have the necessary ICT tools to fulfill their mandates. The PMO within OICT aims to enhance the successful delivery of ICT initiatives across the organization by providing centralized project management oversight, governance, standardization, methodologies, best practices, training, tools, and templates. The PMO promotes compliance, transparency, and best practices at all levels of the organization, enabling consistent and effective project implementation globally.

Job Overview:
The internship position is situated within the Project Management Office (PMO) of the United Nations Office of Information and Communications Technology (OICT). The intern will play a crucial role in supporting the PMO team in monitoring project management compliance and assisting with the project management tool replacement project. The intern's responsibilities will include attending project management compliance review meetings, following up with project managers on compliance items, and assisting in tracking compliance against PMO methodologies and standards. Additionally, the intern will provide administrative support to the Project Online replacement project, maintain project plans, schedules, and deliverables, and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives related to PMO processes and tools. This internship is an excellent opportunity for individuals interested in gaining hands-on experience in project management within a global organization.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The intern will be responsible for a variety of tasks, including:
  • Project Management Compliance Support: - Attend PM compliance review meetings and project status meetings as required. - Follow up with Project Managers on outstanding compliance items, documentation gaps, and reporting requirements. - Assist in tracking compliance against PMO methodology, standards, and governance. - Support the maintenance of compliance tracking sheets, including documentation completeness, project submission, and change requests. - Draft meeting minutes and action items for compliance-related meetings.
  • Project Online Replacement Project Support: - Provide administrative support to the Project Online replacement project. - Assist in maintaining project plans, schedules, and deliverables under the guidance of the Project Manager. - Help with testing, documentation, and user-support materials during the project lifecycle.
  • General PMO Support: - Support ad-hoc PMO activities, analysis, and administrative tasks as assigned. - Maintain PMO SharePoint site reference material, templates, and records. - Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives related to PMO processes, tools, and reporting.

Required Qualifications:
To qualify for an internship with the United Nations Internship Programme, applicants must meet one of the following requirements: a) Be enrolled in, or have completed, a graduate school program (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); or b) Be enrolled in, or have completed, the FINAL academic year of a first university degree program (minimum bachelor's level or equivalent). Additionally, candidates should possess strong visual communication skills, the ability to communicate clearly and effectively, and a collaborative mindset that values the ideas and expertise of others. Familiarity with basic project management concepts and project lifecycles is also required, along with proficiency in Microsoft Office 365 applications and exposure to project management tools.

Educational Background:
Candidates must be either enrolled in or have completed a graduate school program or be in the final academic year of a first university degree program. This educational background ensures that interns have the necessary theoretical knowledge and skills to contribute effectively to the PMO's work.

Experience:
No prior working experience is required to apply for the United Nations Internship Programme. However, candidates should have relevant training, education, or advanced coursework that would benefit the United Nations during their internship. This makes the position accessible to recent graduates and students who are looking to gain practical experience in a professional setting.

Languages:
Fluency in English (both oral and written) is required for this position. Knowledge of another official UN language, such as French, is considered an advantage.
