Job Overview:
The Expert in charge of the Secretariat of the Committee on Mediterranean Forestry Questions-Silva Mediterranea will play a crucial role in coordinating regional activities based on the decisions made by Member Countries. This position entails overseeing the implementation of recommendations from the committee, organizing biennial official sessions, and managing annual meetings of the Executive Committee. The expert will also be responsible for coordinating action plans from various working groups and taskforces, monitoring advancements in Mediterranean forestry topics, and facilitating knowledge transfer through publications and capacity-building events. Additionally, the role includes supporting the Mediterranean Forest Initiative and supervising the Mediterranean Youth Taskforce, ensuring effective collaboration with regional stakeholders, and advising on resource mobilization efforts.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The duties and responsibilities of the Expert include: following up on and implementing recommendations from the Committee on Mediterranean Forestry Questions-Silva Mediterranea; organizing biennial sessions and annual Executive Committee meetings; coordinating action plans of working groups; monitoring Mediterranean forest topics and facilitating knowledge transfer; overseeing the implementation of the Agadir Commitment; coordinating interventions funded by the Multi-Partner Trust Fund; supporting the Mediterranean Forest Initiative; supervising the Mediterranean Youth Taskforce; maintaining partnerships with regional stakeholders; organizing the ninth Mediterranean Forest Week; advising on resource mobilization and project proposals; ensuring support through newsletters and information materials; coordinating the preparation of the fourth edition of the Status of Mediterranean Forests; and performing any other tasks as requested by the Forest Restoration team leader.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess an advanced university degree in forestry from an institution recognized by the International Association of Universities (IAU)/UNESCO. Those with a bachelor's degree must have two additional years of relevant professional experience. A minimum of 10 years of relevant professional experience in forestry, forest and landscape restoration, or sustainable land management is required, with experience at both national and international levels. Candidates should have a working knowledge (Level C) of English, and knowledge of another FAO language is considered an asset.

Educational Background:
The educational background required for this position includes an advanced university degree in forestry or a related field from a recognized institution. For candidates with a bachelor's degree, an additional two years of relevant professional experience is necessary to meet the minimum qualifications.

Experience:
The position requires at least 10 years of relevant professional experience in forestry, forest and landscape restoration, sustainable land management, or related fields.
