Job Overview: The Communication Specialist role within the WHO Country Office in Qatar is pivotal in developing and delivering communication activities that align with national health priorities. This position requires the translation of key public health information into culturally appropriate messages for various stakeholders. The specialist will work closely with the Regional Strategic Communications for health team at WHO/EMRO to ensure that communication strategies are effective and resonate with the local population. The role involves creating content that reflects the health situation and WHO's initiatives, thereby enhancing the visibility and impact of WHO's work in Qatar.
Duties and Responsibilities: The Communication Specialist will be responsible for a wide range of tasks, including but not limited to: developing and implementing a comprehensive communications action plan for the WHO Country Office in Qatar; drafting meeting reports, concept notes, and opening remarks for events; identifying subjects of interest and contributing to the development of communication products such as messages, success stories, media releases, and advocacy materials; producing newsletters, internal talking points, and web content; facilitating the production and dissemination of WHO communications products; establishing and maintaining contacts with media institutions; developing and updating content for WHO's websites and social media accounts; maintaining a database of multimedia content; collaborating with WHO/EMRO and other partners; conducting communications capacity-building workshops; managing communication services and contracts; and coordinating with various stakeholders to identify and handle communication opportunities.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess strong communication skills, both written and verbal, with a proven ability to translate complex health information into accessible messages. Experience in public health communication, media relations, and content creation is essential. The ideal candidate should demonstrate creativity, professionalism, and the ability to work collaboratively in a team environment. Knowledge of the local context and cultural sensitivities in Qatar is highly desirable, along with a commitment to the values and mission of WHO.
Educational Background: A bachelor's degree in communications, public health, social sciences, or a related field is required. A master's degree in a relevant discipline is preferred and may enhance the candidate's competitiveness for the position.
Experience: Candidates should have at least 2-3 years of relevant professional experience in communications, public relations, or a related field, preferably within an international organization or in a public health context. Experience working in Qatar or the Gulf region is an advantage.
Languages: Fluency in English is mandatory, both spoken and written. Knowledge of Arabic is highly desirable and would be considered an asset, as it would facilitate communication with local stakeholders and enhance the effectiveness of outreach efforts.
