The intern will work under the direct supervision of the Administrative and Financial Specialist and the Regional Director and Coordinator for Andean Countries. The primary focus of this role is to develop and implement a social media content calendar that aligns with UN-Habitat's communication strategy. The intern will be responsible for creating engaging content across various media platforms, including social media, web, and advertising. This position requires a proactive approach to monitoring social media channels for engagement and responding to comments and mentions. The intern will also analyze social media performance metrics and provide recommendations for improvement. Additionally, the intern will draft press releases, news articles, and other communication materials, contributing to the development of brochures, flyers, and presentations. The role includes assisting in the design and layout of documents and publications, organizing media events, and supporting the graphic and content coverage of UN-Habitat events. The intern will also be involved in completing journalistic reports related to UN-Habitat's initiatives, ensuring that the messaging aligns with the organization's campaigns and objectives.
Duties and Responsibilities: The intern's duties and responsibilities include:
Developing and implementing a social media content calendar that aligns with UN-Habitat's communication strategy.
Creating various media products, including web content, social media posts, and advertising materials, to disseminate project results to target audiences.
Crafting engaging social media posts (text, images, videos) across platforms such as Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and LinkedIn.
Monitoring social media channels for engagement, comments, and mentions, and responding appropriately.
Analyzing social media performance metrics and providing recommendations for improvement.
Drafting press releases, news articles, and other communication materials.
Supporting the development of communication materials, including brochures, flyers, and presentations.
Contributing to the creation of visual content, such as infographics, photos, and videos.
Assisting in the design and layout of documents and publications. 1

Supporting the development of communication plans and strategies. 1
Assisting in the graphic and content coverage of HUB Andean Countries events. 1
Completing journalistic reports on topics related to UN-Habitat HUB Andean Countries. 1

Required Qualifications: Applicants must meet one of the following requirements at the time of application: a. Be enrolled in a graduate school program (second university degree or equivalent, or higher), b. Be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree program (minimum Bachelor's level or equivalent), c. Have graduated with a Bachelor's degree, Master's, PhD, or equivalent. Additionally, applicants should be computer literate in standard software applications, particularly the Microsoft Office Suite. A keen interest in the work of the United Nations and a personal commitment to the ideals of the UN Charter are essential. Candidates should demonstrate the ability to interact successfully with individuals from diverse cultural backgrounds and beliefs, showing a willingness to understand and tolerate differing opinions and views. Preferred areas of study include communications, journalism, public relations, or related fields. Strong writing and editing skills in both Spanish and English are required, along with proficiency in social media platforms and content management systems. Graphic design skills and proficiency in design software, such as Adobe Creative Suite and Canva, are also necessary.
Educational Background: The educational background required for this internship includes being a student in the final year of a first university degree (Bachelor's or equivalent), a Master's, or a Ph.D. program, or having completed a Bachelor's, Master's, or Ph.D. program. Applicants should ideally be enrolled in a program related to communications, journalism, public relations, or similar fields that align with the internship's focus.
Experience: While applicants to the UN Internship Programme are not required to have professional work experience, it is essential that their field of study is closely related to the internship they are applying for. Experience with the United Nations or other international cooperation organizations is desirable. Candidates should briefly describe any related experience they have, particularly if they have worked on the design or formulation of a communications strategy.
Languages: Fluency in oral and written English and Spanish is required for this internship position. Knowledge of another UN language is considered desirable, as English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat.
