Job Overview:
The Head of Mission Analysis Section will play a pivotal role within the Flight Dynamics Division of the Ground Systems Engineering and Innovation Department at ESA. This position involves leading mission analysis activities that support a variety of projects, including terrestrial, lunar, interplanetary, and libration point missions. The successful candidate will be responsible for orbit-related analysis, which includes operational orbit selection, trajectory design and optimization, atmospheric entry trajectory computation, and navigation analysis. The role also encompasses the development of mission analysis solutions through collaboration with a technical team of ESA staff and industrial services, ensuring that the section meets current and future strategic needs.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The duties of the Head of Mission Analysis Section include leading an international team of experts, coordinating work with industrial service teams, and fostering a positive work environment. The candidate will be responsible for maintaining and developing the technical expertise of the team, negotiating mission-analysis activities, and ensuring effective collaboration with various teams within ESA. Additionally, the role involves leading the development and maintenance of software tools for mission analysis, conducting research and development activities, managing work packages from service providers, and contributing to the evolution of flight dynamics systems. The candidate will also be tasked with identifying and managing health and safety risks within their area of responsibility.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a master's degree in mathematics, physics, or a relevant engineering discipline. They should have several years of relevant experience in mission analysis, with a strong advantage for those with experience in flight dynamics operations. The ideal candidate will demonstrate strong leadership capabilities, excellent relationship management skills, and the ability to motivate and develop team members. Problem-solving skills, planning and organizational abilities, and a results-oriented mindset are essential for success in this role.

Educational Background:

Experience:
The position requires several years of relevant experience in mission analysis, with a preference for candidates who have experience in flight dynamics operations. Languages:
The working languages of ESA are English and French, with a good knowledge of one of these languages required for the position. Knowledge of another language from an ESA Member State would be considered an asset, enhancing communication and collaboration within the diverse workforce.

The position is a four-year appointment, extendable to indefinite, and is classified within the grade band A2-A
