Job Overview:
The position involves conducting an endline household survey to assess the impact of the Coffee Farm College program implemented by TechnoServe, with support from HereWeGrow. This program has been training smallholder farmers in improved agricultural practices and farm business skills since January 202
Duties and Responsibilities:
The selected survey firm will be responsible for several key tasks, including: reviewing and providing feedback on the endline questionnaire developed by the IFPRI team, translating it into Amharic and Afan Oromo, and programming it in SurveyCTO. The firm will also recruit and manage a field team consisting of approximately 25 enumerators, 5 field supervisors, and 1 survey coordinator. A comprehensive 7-day training course for enumerators will be organized, which includes classroom training in Addis Ababa and field piloting in Jimma zone. The firm will oversee the implementation of fieldwork, ensuring in-person interviews are conducted with the targeted households, managing logistics, and ensuring data quality through regular monitoring and back-checks. After data collection, the firm will prepare a detailed report documenting the survey implementation process, challenges faced, and data quality assessments.
Required Qualifications:
The survey firm must demonstrate substantial experience in organizing and implementing large-scale household surveys in Ethiopia, with a proven track record of conducting at least three similar surveys with comparable sample sizes. The firm should have a qualified survey team, including enumerators and supervisors, who possess a minimum of three years of university education and relevant experience in conducting rural household surveys using computer-assisted personal interviewing (CAPI) methods, preferably with SurveyCTO. Additionally, the firm must exhibit strong financial management capabilities, ensuring transparent management of project funds and the provision of clear financial documentation and reports. The ability to mobilize field teams and complete survey activities within the specified timeline is also essential.
Educational Background:
The survey firm should have a team with a minimum of three years of university education, particularly in fields related to social sciences, agriculture, or statistics. This educational background is crucial for understanding the complexities of household surveys and the agricultural context in which the survey will be conducted.
Experience:
The firm must have a minimum of three years of experience in conducting large-scale household surveys, particularly in rural settings. Experience with coffee-farming households and familiarity with the coffee production regions of Ethiopia will be considered an advantage. The firm should also have a history of successfully managing field teams and completing surveys within the designated timelines.
Languages:
The mandatory languages for this position include English, as all application documents must be submitted in English. Additionally, proficiency in Amharic and Afan Oromo is essential for the translation and administration of the survey questionnaire, as these languages will be used during the survey process.

The duration of the project is expected to be four months, covering all phases from preparation to completion of the survey. - The endline survey, scheduled for April 2026, will revisit approximately 2,160 households that were initially interviewed at baseline. The survey aims to evaluate the program's effectiveness in enhancing farmers' knowledge, adoption of agricultural best practices, coffee production, productivity, and income. The survey will be conducted through in-person interviews across two woredas (Gera and Goma) and 26 kebeles in the Jimma Zone, utilizing a structured household questionnaire that covers various aspects of household demographics, productive assets, access to extension services, and more. The survey is expected to take around 120 minutes per household and will be administered by trained enumerators using tablets programmed with SurveyCTO.
