Job Overview:
The Operations Administrator position is a crucial role within the Operations Department of Human Rights Watch, specifically for the Amsterdam office. This fixed-term, part-time position is designed to provide essential day-to-day support to ensure the smooth and efficient functioning of the office. The role is set to cover parental leave and will require the successful candidate to work 32 hours per week, starting from 28 April 2026 and continuing through 11 November 202
  • The Operations Administrator will report directly to the Director for European Operations, who is based in Geneva, Switzerland. The candidate must be located within commuting distance of the Amsterdam office and is expected to work from the office at least 2-3 days a week. The organization emphasizes flexibility and support during the recruitment and onboarding processes, aiming to create a conducive work environment for the new hire.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Operations Administrator will have a wide range of responsibilities across various domains including finance, legal/governance, human resources, facilities administration, and information technology. In finance, the administrator will act as the local finance representative, manage bank accounts, assist with financial queries, and oversee the office budget. Legal responsibilities include ensuring compliance with local laws and coordinating board meetings. In human resources, the administrator will assist with recruitment, manage local staff contracts, and maintain compliance with employment laws. Facilities administration duties involve maintaining office functionality, liaising with suppliers, and ensuring safety standards. Additionally, the administrator will troubleshoot IT issues and manage office communications. The role requires a proactive approach to problem-solving and the ability to juggle multiple tasks effectively while meeting deadlines.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a bachelor’s degree or equivalent training in fields such as business administration, nonprofit management, human resources, or international relations. A minimum of three years of operations or administrative experience is required, preferably within a global organization. Experience in accounting, bookkeeping, nonprofit management, and human resources is highly desirable. The role demands excellent organizational, analytical, and financial skills, along with strong interpersonal abilities and attention to detail. Self-motivation, initiative, and the capacity to work independently or as part of a team are essential. The candidate must also demonstrate the ability to work under pressure and manage multiple tasks effectively.

Educational Background:
A bachelor’s degree or equivalent training in business administration, nonprofit management, human resources, international relations, or a related field is required for this position. This educational background provides the foundational knowledge necessary for the diverse responsibilities of the Operations Administrator role.

Experience:
The position requires a minimum of three years of operations or administrative experience, ideally in a global organization. This experience should encompass various aspects of operations, including finance, human resources, and facilities management. Familiarity with nonprofit management and accounting practices is highly advantageous, as it aligns with the organization's operational needs.

Languages:

  • The successful candidate must possess valid Dutch work authorization to be eligible for this role. The gross annualized salary range for this position is between EUR 51,000 and EUR 56,000, which will be prorated to reflect the part-time schedule, resulting in a salary range of EUR 40,800 to EUR 44,80
