Job Overview:
The internship-position" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">internship position in the Energy Unit, part of the Natural Resources Division, is designed to provide support in analyzing data and information related to natural resources. The intern will work under the supervision of an Economics Officer and will be involved in various tasks that contribute to the Unit's analytical and policy work. This role is ideal for individuals looking to gain practical experience in a UN environment, particularly in the field of natural resources and energy policy. The internship is expected to last between 3 to 6 months, depending on the needs of the office, and candidates may be selected throughout the posting period on an 'as-needed' basis. The intern will engage in research, data collection, document review, and administrative support, thereby gaining valuable insights into the workings of a UN agency and the complexities of regional economic and social development.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The intern will be responsible for a variety of tasks, including but not limited to: assisting in research on natural resources issues and topics; searching, collecting, and organizing data and information from various sources; reviewing documents such as articles and papers on natural resources and preparing abstracts and summaries; proofreading documents for accuracy and adherence to editorial standards; providing administrative support during meetings, conferences, workshops, and webinars; preparing inputs for documents and presentations, including charts, diagrams, and tables; supporting the writing of news articles and updating the Unit's web content; and performing other related duties as required. This role requires attention to detail, strong organizational skills, and the ability to work collaboratively within a team.

Required Qualifications:
Applicants must meet one of the following criteria: (a) be enrolled in or have completed a graduate school program (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); (b) be enrolled in or have completed the final academic year of a first university degree program (minimum bachelor’s degree or equivalent). While professional work experience is not required for the UN Internship Programme, a field of study closely related to the internship is necessary. Applicants must demonstrate proficiency in standard software applications, particularly MS Word, MS Excel, MS PowerPoint, MS Outlook, and MS Teams. The ability to draft documents, prepare presentations, and manage databases is desirable.

Educational Background:
Candidates should be students in the final year of their first university degree (bachelor or equivalent), or enrolled in or have completed a Master’s or Ph.D. program. Proof of enrollment or completion must be provided with the application, and an official certificate will be required at a later stage. This educational background ensures that interns have the necessary theoretical knowledge to contribute effectively to the work of the Energy Unit.

Experience:
No prior professional work experience is required for this internship position. However, candidates should have relevant academic experience or coursework that aligns with the responsibilities of the internship. This is an excellent opportunity for students or recent graduates to gain practical experience in a UN setting, particularly in the areas of energy and natural resources.

Languages:
Fluency in spoken and written Spanish is required for this internship, as it is essential for effective communication within the team and with stakeholders. English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat, so proficiency in these languages is advantageous. Knowledge of an additional official UN language (Arabic, Chinese, Russian) is also considered a plus, enhancing the candidate's profile in a multilingual work environment.

Additional Notes:
Interns at the United Nations are not financially remunerated. All costs and arrangements for travel, visas, accommodation, and living expenses are the responsibility of the interns or their sponsoring institutions. Interns who are not citizens or permanent residents of Chile may need to obtain the appropriate visa and work authorization. It is crucial for successful candidates to discuss their specific visa requirements before accepting the internship offer. Additionally, it is important to note that the United Nations does not charge any fees at any stage of the recruitment process, ensuring a fair and transparent selection process.
