Job Overview:
The internship-position" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">internship position in the Energy Unit, Natural Resources Division, based in Santiago, Chile, is designed to last between 3 to 6 months, depending on the needs of the office. The intern will work under the supervision of an Economics Officer and will be involved in analyzing data and information related to natural resources, contributing to the Unit’s analytical and policy work. The role requires a proactive approach to data analysis, visualization, and strategic communication, ensuring that the intern supports the dissemination of ECLAC’s energy publications and initiatives effectively. The intern will also assist in managing digital content and providing administrative support for regional workshops and technical assistance missions.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The intern will be responsible for a variety of tasks, including:
  • Data analysis and research: Systematizing and analyzing energy sector data for Latin America and the Caribbean to ensure high-quality inputs for regional reports and policy research.
  • Data visualization and design: Developing impactful visual communication materials, such as complex graphs, infographics, and technical diagrams, to enhance the dissemination of ECLAC’s energy publications and institutional presentations.
  • Strategic communication: Supporting the outreach strategy by drafting news articles, technical briefs, and editorial content regarding ECLAC’s energy initiatives and progress in the regional energy transition.
  • Digital content management: Assisting in the technical update and content curation of the ECLAC energy web platforms, ensuring the accessibility and accuracy of information for Member States and stakeholders.
  • Substantive and administrative support: Providing support in organizing regional workshops and technical assistance missions.

Required Qualifications:
Applicants must meet one of the following requirements: (a) be enrolled in, or have completed, a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); (b) be enrolled in, or have completed, the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum bachelor’s degree or equivalent). While professional work experience is not required for the UN Internship Programme, a field of study closely related to the internship is necessary. Applicants must be students in the final year of their first university degree (bachelor or equivalent), Master’s or Ph.D. Programme, or have completed a Bachelor’s, Master’s, or Ph.D. Programme. Good knowledge of standard software applications, particularly MS Word, MS Excel, MS PowerPoint, MS Outlook, and MS Teams is essential. The ability to draft documents, prepare presentations, and manage databases is also desirable.

Educational Background:
Candidates should be enrolled in or have completed a relevant academic program, such as a Bachelor’s, Master’s, or Ph.D. in fields related to economics, social sciences, environmental studies, or other relevant disciplines. Proof of enrollment or completion of the required academic program must be provided with the application.

Experience:
While applicants are not required to have prior professional work experience, it is essential that they have a strong academic background in a field related to the internship. This could include coursework or projects that demonstrate relevant skills and knowledge applicable to the tasks outlined in the internship description.

Languages:
Fluency in spoken and written Spanish is required for the internship. English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat, and knowledge of an additional official UN language (Arabic, Chinese, English, French, Russian, or Spanish) is considered an advantage.

All costs and arrangements for travel, visas, accommodation, and living expenses are the responsibility of the interns or their sponsoring institutions.
