Job Overview: The Project Coordinator will play a crucial role in the implementation and monitoring of the 'Strengthening the Reintegration of Returnees in The Gambia (STRONG)' project. This initiative aims to provide comprehensive reintegration assistance to migrants through community-based initiatives and Mental Health and psychosocial-support" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">Psychosocial Support (MHPSS) services. The coordinator will work closely with the Project Manager and various stakeholders to ensure the project's objectives are met effectively and efficiently. The role involves coordinating with national and regional stakeholders, contributing to capacity-building efforts, and ensuring compliance with IOM policies and donor requirements. The Project Coordinator will also be responsible for developing work plans, project budgets, and monitoring tools, while fostering synergies with other IOM units to integrate cross-cutting issues such as gender mainstreaming and environmental sustainability into project activities.
Duties and Responsibilities: The Project Coordinator will have a wide range of responsibilities, including but not limited to: coordinating the implementation of the STRONG project, monitoring operational, administrative, and financial aspects, and ensuring compliance with IOM policies. The coordinator will assist in developing work plans and budgets, contribute to capacity-building activities, and support local authorities in participatory planning methodologies. They will also be responsible for data collection and analysis, updating information management systems, and liaising with donors and partners. Additionally, the coordinator will prepare project reports, participate in capacity gap assessments, and provide training and technical guidance to project staff. The role may require attending conferences and workshops, as well as undertaking duty travel for project-related activities.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess strong organizational skills, excellent communication abilities, and the capacity to maintain partnerships with various stakeholders. The role requires a demonstrated ability to prioritize tasks, meet deadlines, and work under pressure with minimal supervision. The Project Coordinator should have a solid understanding of migration issues and experience in community-based project implementation. They must also exhibit strong analytical skills and the ability to deliver quality results in a service-oriented manner.
Educational Background: A Master's degree in political or social sciences, International Relations, Development Studies, Migration Studies, Human Rights, Law, or related fields from an accredited institution is required. Alternatively, a Bachelor's degree in the aforementioned fields with two years of relevant professional experience is acceptable. Accredited universities are those listed in the UNESCO World Higher Education Database.
Experience: The ideal candidate should have experience working with various stakeholders, including government authorities, UN agencies, and NGOs. They should have a proven track record in designing and implementing community-based reintegration projects and possess experience in project management, reporting, monitoring, and evaluation. Familiarity with migration-related issues and experience in stakeholder engagement, including organizing workshops and delivering training, are essential. The candidate should also have experience in participatory community-based planning tools and project development.
Languages: Fluency in English is mandatory, both oral and written. Knowledge of any two local languages and French is considered an advantage. Proficiency in required languages will be evaluated during the selection process, which may include written and/or oral assessments.
Additional Notes: The position is subject to funding confirmation, and the selection process may be used to fill similar positions in various duty stations. National Professional Officers must be nationals of the country of employment and perform work at a professional level. The appointment will be contingent upon medical fitness certification and verification of residency and visa requirements.
