Job Overview:
The IT Support Officer position is primarily focused on providing IT support and managing local IT operations within the FAO Representation in Port of Spain. The incumbent will be responsible for user and desktop support, including hardware and software assistance, and helpdesk operations. This role is critical in ensuring the smooth delivery of corporate IT services, which includes monitoring and coordinating IT support operations, maintaining data management systems, and assisting in various operational duties to enhance the overall efficiency of the office. The IT Support Officer will work under the technical supervision of the regional IT Support Officer and the direct supervision of the Assistant FAOR Administration Representative. The position requires a comprehensive understanding of corporate IT setups, rules, regulations, and policies, as well as the necessary competencies, skills, and certifications to fulfill the role effectively.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The duties and responsibilities of the IT Support Officer include:
  • User Support: Assisting in the presentation of display materials and video conferencing events, providing orientation to new and existing users on IT rules and regulations, and managing requests related to IT matters through the Service Desk system.
  • Network and Connectivity: Assisting in developing and maintaining the office network infrastructure (LAN and WAN), ensuring security policies are followed, and updating technology maps and specifications.
  • IT Equipment: Keeping track of IT assets, maintaining the local office IT inventory list, monitoring equipment expiry dates, and following procedures for granting equipment to external organizations.
  • Corporate and Non-Corporate Software: Ensuring all official equipment is updated according to corporate policies, managing user identity security, and following procedures for non-official equipment usage.
  • Troubleshooting: Supporting corporate IT services, troubleshooting hardware and software issues, and reporting incidents in the corporate Service Management system.
  • Planning and Proactive Work: Identifying future office needs, performing disaster recovery simulations, and providing timely assistance to the regional ISD.
  • Weekly Reporting: Reporting weekly to the regional ISD on IT services, troubleshooting, and the physical condition of IT equipment.
  • Other Tasks: Providing IT assistance to staff and visitors, creating purchase requisitions, and executing IT and operations activities to support the efficient functioning of the Representation.

Required Qualifications:
The minimum requirements for the IT Support Officer position include:
  • A university degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field.
  • A minimum of 5 years of relevant experience in Information Technology or Computer Science.
  • A working knowledge of English.
  • Candidates must be nationals of Trinidad and Tobago or residents of the country with a valid work permit. Additionally, candidates should possess FAO core competencies such as results focus, teamwork, communication, building effective relationships, and knowledge sharing.

Educational Background:
Candidates are required to have a university degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related subject. This educational background is essential to ensure that the incumbent has the foundational knowledge and skills necessary to perform the duties associated with the IT Support Officer role effectively.

Experience:
The position requires a minimum of 5 years of relevant experience in Information Technology or Computer Science. This level of experience is crucial for the incumbent to handle the various IT support tasks and responsibilities effectively, ensuring that the office's IT operations run smoothly and efficiently.

Languages:
A working knowledge of English is mandatory for this position. Proficiency in additional languages may be considered an asset, but English is the primary language of communication within the organization and is essential for effective collaboration and support.
