Job Overview:
The Programme Assistant position is integral to the operations of the FAO, providing essential support for various programs and projects aimed at achieving food security and sustainable development. The role involves monitoring budgets, collecting and preparing data related to FAO activities, and ensuring that project activities align with established work and travel plans. The Programme Assistant will also be responsible for data entry into corporate databases, assisting in the preparation of agreements, and supporting the organization of workshops and meetings. This position requires a proactive approach to problem-solving and the ability to work collaboratively with various teams within the organization.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Programme Assistant will undertake a variety of tasks, including monitoring program and project budgets, collecting and preparing data, supporting the preparation of technical work plans, entering data into corporate databases, and assisting in the preparation of draft Letters of Agreements. The incumbent will also monitor project budgets, organize workshops and meetings, prepare travel authorization requests, arrange travel bookings, and manage contracts for affiliate workforce. Additional responsibilities include preparing procurement requests, maintaining files for assigned tasks, drafting correspondence and reports, and performing other operational tasks as required.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must have completed secondary school education, preferably with additional training in program/project support, administration, or data management. A minimum of four years of clerical or program experience is required, including experience in data processing and record keeping. UN experience is considered an advantage. Proficiency in English and the local language is mandatory, and candidates must provide evidence of completion or exemption from National Services. Nationality of Eritrea is also a requirement for this position.

Educational Background:
The educational background required for this position includes a completed secondary school education, with a preference for candidates who have pursued further training or technical courses related to program/project support, administration, or data management. Higher educational qualifications must be obtained from institutions recognized in the World Higher Education Database (WHED).

Experience:
The position requires a minimum of four years of relevant experience in clerical and program support roles. This experience should include analyzing, processing, and editing information and data, as well as maintaining accurate records. Experience working within the UN system is advantageous and may enhance a candidate's application.

Languages:
Proficiency in English is mandatory, with a working knowledge of the local language of Eritrea also required. Candidates should demonstrate their language skills through relevant qualifications or experience.
