Job Overview: The Finance Intern position at UNU is designed to provide support to the Finance team, which is a crucial part of the UNU-Centre Administration. The Finance team operates from the Global Services Centre in Putrajaya, Malaysia, and is responsible for delivering comprehensive financial services to UNU institutes and offices globally. The intern will engage in various analytical, reporting, policy development, and administrative tasks that are essential for the team's operations. This role is an excellent opportunity for individuals looking to gain practical experience in finance within an international organization, contributing to the development of financial policies and strategies, financial reporting, and analysis. The intern will work under the supervision of the Chief of Finance and collaborate closely with the Finance team to enhance operational efficiency and internal controls.
Duties and Responsibilities: The intern will be tasked with conducting research and performing data analysis to support the drafting of finance and operational policies, procedures, and guidelines. They will assist in the collection and analysis of financial data and support the preparation of financial reports. Additionally, the intern will help organize and document meetings, which includes drafting agendas, minutes, correspondence, presentations, and other communication materials. They will also support the maintenance and enhancement of the Finance Intranet, including content updates and design improvements. Furthermore, the intern will contribute to knowledge sharing and capacity building by supporting training sessions, participating in internal knowledge networks, and assisting with the community of practice. Other duties may be assigned by the supervisor as needed.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must have university studies in disciplines such as Finance, Business Administration, or other related areas. They should be in their final year of undergraduate study or enrolled in a graduate degree program, or they should be within two years post-graduation from a bachelor's, master's, or PhD degree program. Excellent communication and presentation skills are required, along with proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, PowerPoint, Excel) and Power BI. The ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a multi-cultural team is essential.
Educational Background: The educational background required for this position includes university studies in Finance, Business Administration, or related fields. Candidates should either be in their final year of undergraduate studies or currently enrolled in a graduate program. Alternatively, applicants who have graduated within the last two years from a relevant degree program are also eligible to apply.
Experience: The position requires candidates to have a foundational understanding of finance and business administration principles, typically acquired through academic study. While specific prior work experience is not mandatory, any relevant internships or volunteer experiences in finance or administrative roles would be advantageous. The intern should demonstrate the ability to work independently and collaboratively in a diverse team environment.

Interns who do not receive financial support from other sources will receive a stipend from UNU to help cover basic living costs during the internship. The stipend amount will be determined based on the rates in effect for the duty station and will be paid monthly.
