Job Overview: The Senior Environment Officer position is a critical role within the Climate Change and Sustainable Development Department (CCSD) at ADB. This position is strategically assigned to the India Resident Mission (INRM) in the South Asia Regional Department (SARD). The officer will provide both technical and administrative support to the Environment team (CCRE-ENV) and INRM, focusing on policy and strategy work, fund management, technical assistance projects, and knowledge generation related to environmental issues in India. The role involves extensive research and analysis, as well as the design and implementation of projects and programs that align with the Environmental Action Plan and India Country Partnership Strategy. The Senior Environment Officer will be responsible for contributing to key strategic documents, tracking India's environmental progress, and supporting various operational activities related to environment and nature.
Duties and Responsibilities: The duties and responsibilities of the Senior Environment Officer include:
Conducting research and analysis to support the development of policies and strategies that mainstream environmental considerations across ADB operations in India, focusing on areas such as biodiversity, air quality, and circular economy.
Assisting in the preparation and processing of technical assistance (TA) activities and sector operations related to environment and nature, ensuring effective implementation and completion of projects.
Serving as the focal point for all TA activities and sector operations involving environment and nature, facilitating communication and collaboration with internal and external stakeholders.
Offering administrative support by monitoring and reporting on environmental issues related to projects and operations, and contributing to the management information system and annual reports.
Required Qualifications: Candidates for the Senior Environment Officer position must possess a Bachelor's degree in environmental science, natural resources management, or a related field, with a preference for those holding a Master's degree or equivalent. A minimum of 8 years of relevant professional experience in environmental management and project development is required, including at least 4 years in a supervisory role. Familiarity with project processing in multilateral and bilateral organizations is advantageous, as is experience with ADB projects. Strong research, writing, and presentation skills are essential, along with proficiency in written and spoken English. Candidates should demonstrate the ability to work independently and collaboratively with diverse teams and stakeholders.
