Job Overview: The Supply Chain Assistant Logistics position is crucial for the effective coordination of fleet, warehouse, and inventory operations in Arua, Uganda. This role requires collaboration with the regional office to ensure timely and efficient support to program teams working in settlements. The Supply Chain Assistant will be responsible for ensuring that all operational tasks are performed in accordance with DRC’s internal procedures and donor requirements, as outlined in the Operations Handbook and Quality Standards. The successful candidate will be expected to promote value for money in all activities, ensuring that resources are utilized efficiently and effectively to support program implementation.
Duties and Responsibilities: The Supply Chain Assistant will undertake a variety of duties, including but not limited to: receiving and verifying supplies from the regional office, maintaining the office store/warehouse, ensuring proper documentation of stock transactions, and notifying program teams about stock arrivals. The role also involves coordinating transport and fleet support, ensuring timely replenishment of fuel, planning vehicle movements, conducting vehicle safety checks, and maintaining records related to vehicle reports. Additionally, the assistant will manage assets in accordance with DRC guidelines, ensuring transparency and accountability in asset usage. Other responsibilities include preparing reports, maintaining an archiving system on the DRC SharePoint platform, and performing any other duties assigned by the line manager.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a minimum of a bachelor’s degree in procurement and logistics, supply chain management, or business administration with a focus on procurement or supply chain management. A demonstrated understanding of logistical principles and processes is essential, along with good interpersonal skills and the ability to work independently. Computer literacy is mandatory, and experience with ERP systems is advantageous. Cultural sensitivity and the ability to work in a cross-cultural environment are also important for this role.
Educational Background: The educational requirement for this position includes a bachelor’s degree in a relevant field such as procurement and logistics, supply chain management, or business administration with a major in procurement or supply chain management. This educational background is crucial for understanding the complexities of supply chain operations and ensuring compliance with organizational and donor standards.
Experience: The ideal candidate should have at least 2 years of working experience in a busy International Non-Governmental Organization (INGO) environment. This experience should include a solid understanding of donor financial requirements, government budgets, and tax policies. The candidate should also have practical experience in logistical operations and supply chain management, demonstrating the ability to handle the responsibilities outlined in the job description effectively.
Languages: Full professional proficiency in English is mandatory for this position. This proficiency is essential for effective communication within the organization and with external stakeholders. While English is the primary language required, knowledge of additional languages may be considered an asset, particularly in a multicultural environment.
Additional Notes: The contract for this position is for a duration of 11 months, with a designated duty station in Arua, Uganda. The expected start date for the role is February 202
