Job Overview:

Duties and Responsibilities:
The UNV RSD Associate will be responsible for a variety of tasks, including conducting Refugee Status Determination interviews, drafting legal assessments, and making recommendations regarding refugee status. They will provide RSD counseling services to refugees and asylum seekers, maintain accurate records of individual cases, and assist in preventing and identifying fraud in the RSD process. The associate will conduct research on country-of-origin information and maintain a local repository of relevant information for RSD staff. They will also monitor RSD trends, compile statistics related to case processing, and assist in developing processes to ensure accurate information dissemination about RSD procedures. Additionally, the associate will draft correspondence and reports related to RSD activities and refer cases to other functional units or external partners as necessary. They will counsel asylum seekers on negative RSD decisions and perform any other related tasks as assigned by their supervisor.

The UNV RSD Associate position is typically a full-time role, with living conditions varying by duty station. Volunteers are responsible for their own accommodation, with support from the host entity. The position offers a Monthly Volunteer Living Allowance (VLA) of ZAR 19056.09, a one-time entry lump sum of $400, medical insurance, life cover, and annual leave. Volunteers also have access to various learning platforms and receive a one-time exit lump sum at the end of their assignment.
