This position is typically supervised by a Professional or Senior General Service staff member, and while it does not have supervisory responsibilities, it requires effective communication and collaboration with colleagues at the same duty station. The Data Management Assistant may also liaise with national and local authorities to gather and exchange data, ensuring that all actions align with UNHCR's core values of professionalism, integrity, and respect for diversity.
Duties and Responsibilities: The Data Management Assistant will be responsible for entering data related to asylum seekers, refugees, and persons of concern into the computer database. This includes contributing to the preparation of reports and project documents by providing necessary information, preparing tables, and drafting routine correspondence. The incumbent will update and maintain existing databases, generate various statistical reports, and assist in developing forms for data collection and analysis as needed. Additionally, the role may require acting as an interpreter during the exchange of routine information and translating documents when necessary. The Data Management Assistant may also undertake field trips to project sites, make decisions regarding data recorded in the database, and resolve incidents or escalate issues to the supervisor when necessary. Furthermore, the incumbent will support the identification and management of risks, ensuring that decision-making is informed by risk assessments in their area of responsibility.
Required Qualifications: The position requires a minimum of 1 year of relevant experience in electronic data processing, information technology, or a related field. Candidates must possess a High School Diploma or a Bachelor’s degree or equivalent higher education. Essential qualifications include knowledge of electronic data processing and information technology. Desirable qualifications include completion of UNHCR learning programs or specific training relevant to the functions of the position.
