Job Overview:

The internship is unpaid and requires a full-time commitment of five days per week, totaling 40 hours. Interns can choose to work either remotely or in-person, with the internship expected to commence on March 16, 2026, and last for a duration of six months. Interns will work under the supervision of a Project Officer and will be involved in various tasks related to economic, legal, and political analysis, as well as meeting and communications support. This role is an excellent opportunity for individuals interested in gaining hands-on experience in the UN's operations and contributing to significant projects related to oceans economy, trade, and climate change.

Duties and Responsibilities:
Interns will be responsible for a variety of tasks, including but not limited to: assisting in the preparation of briefing notes, speeches, presentations, and communication materials related to oceans economy and trade; conducting research and analysis on topics such as fisheries, aquaculture, and climate change; preparing news items and articles on relevant projects; providing policy and legal analysis on trade and environmental sustainability; supporting the organization of UNCTAD events and trainings; preparing minutes and summary reports from meetings; assisting in the development of training materials; and compiling regulatory trends and data for technical cooperation projects. Interns will frequently interact with staff from various branches within UNCTAD, other international organizations, and civil society representatives.

Required Qualifications:
Applicants must meet specific qualifications to be considered for the internship. They should be enrolled in or have completed a graduate program (second university degree or equivalent) or be in the final year of a first university degree program (minimum bachelor's level). Additionally, interns should possess computer literacy in standard software applications, demonstrate a keen interest in the work of the United Nations, and have the ability to interact successfully with individuals from diverse cultural backgrounds. A background in communications, political science, economics, or journalism is preferred, with a focus on studies related to economics, environmental studies, international relations, or political sciences being particularly relevant.

Educational Background:
