Job Overview:
The Plumbing Maintenance Technician position is crucial for ensuring the proper functioning and maintenance of plumbing systems within UNDP facilities in Guinea-Bissau. The technician will be responsible for performing routine inspections, repairs, and maintenance of plumbing systems, including pipes, fixtures, and appliances. The role requires a proactive approach to identifying potential issues and implementing solutions to prevent plumbing failures. The technician will also be expected to collaborate with other maintenance staff and report any significant issues to the facility manager. This position is expected to last from February to December 2026, and the technician will need to be available for emergency repairs as needed, ensuring that all plumbing systems are compliant with safety and health regulations.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The duties and responsibilities of the Plumbing Maintenance Technician include but are not limited to:
  • Conducting regular inspections of plumbing systems to identify and address any leaks, clogs, or other issues.
  • Performing repairs on plumbing fixtures, including sinks, toilets, and water heaters.
  • Installing new plumbing systems and fixtures as required.
  • Ensuring that all plumbing work complies with local building codes and safety regulations.
  • Maintaining accurate records of maintenance and repair work performed.
  • Responding to emergency plumbing issues in a timely manner.
  • Collaborating with other maintenance staff to ensure the overall functionality of the facility.
  • Providing recommendations for improvements or upgrades to plumbing systems.
  • Ordering necessary supplies and materials for plumbing repairs and maintenance. 1
  • Training and mentoring junior staff or apprentices in plumbing maintenance practices.

Required Qualifications:
The ideal candidate for the Plumbing Maintenance Technician position should possess the following qualifications:
  • Proven experience as a plumbing technician or similar role.
  • In-depth knowledge of plumbing systems, tools, and equipment.
  • Familiarity with local plumbing codes and regulations.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to work effectively with team members and clients.
  • Ability to manage time effectively and prioritize tasks in a fast-paced environment.
  • Certification or licensure in plumbing is preferred but not mandatory.

Educational Background:
Candidates should have a high school diploma or equivalent. Additional vocational training or certification in plumbing or a related field is highly desirable. Continuous education and training in plumbing technologies and practices will be considered an asset.

Experience:
Candidates should have a minimum of 3-5 years of experience in plumbing maintenance or a related field. Experience working in a commercial or institutional setting is preferred, particularly within international organizations or NGOs.

Languages:
Fluency in Portuguese is mandatory, as it is the official language of Guinea-Bissau. Proficiency in English is considered an asset, as it may be necessary for communication with international staff and documentation.
