Job Overview:
The Logistics Assistant (Fuel Management) position is crucial for the effective functioning of the logistics unit at the WFP Jijiga Area Office. This role involves performing standard logistics and supply chain processes to ensure the efficient delivery of goods and services across various modalities. The successful candidate will support the logistics officer in managing fuel operations, ensuring compliance with WFP regulations, and maintaining accurate records of fuel transactions. Duties and Responsibilities:
The Logistics Assistant (Fuel Management) will undertake a variety of responsibilities, including but not limited to:
  • Contributing to fuel management at the Jijiga logistics hub in accordance with WFP regulations and standard operating procedures (SOP).
  • Conducting due diligence checks on bulk fuels in tanks and fuel trucks, measuring and reporting stock levels through tank dips and meter readings.
  • Compiling daily, weekly, and monthly fuel balance sheets into the Fleet Management System and Fuel Vouchers System.
  • Checking the functionality of strainers, pumping, and meter equipment, ensuring safety procedures are followed during fuel dispensing operations.
  • Issuing fuel only to authorized WFP assets and documenting fuel transactions accurately in required files, uploading all relevant files to SharePoint.
  • Responding to technical queries and requests for support, ensuring timely and accurate resolution of inquiries.
  • Collecting and compiling fuel-related data, conducting analysis, and producing reports as necessary to ensure information accuracy in corporate systems.
  • Performing any other assigned duties as required to support the logistics unit's objectives.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a completion of secondary school education, with a post-secondary certificate in a related functional area being preferred. A university degree in business administration, economics, or a related field is considered an added advantage. Additionally, candidates should demonstrate a strong understanding of logistics and supply chain management principles, particularly in fuel and fleet management.

Educational Background:
The educational requirements for this position include a minimum of secondary school education. A post-secondary certificate in a relevant field is preferred, and a university degree in business administration, economics, or a related discipline is advantageous. This educational background is essential for understanding the complexities of logistics operations and supply chain management.

Experience:
Candidates should have five or more years of progressively responsible work experience in logistics and supply chain management, particularly in fuel and fleet management. Experience in general administrative work is also required. Previous experience in emergency situations is considered an advantage, as is familiarity with the Somali region, which adds value to the candidate's profile. The ability to meet deadlines and work under pressure as part of a team is crucial for success in this role.

Languages:
Fluency in both oral and written communication in English is mandatory. Additionally, proficiency in the local language of the duty station, if different from English, is highly desirable.
