Job Overview:
The Multimedia and Graphic Design Specialist position is hosted by the UNEP Marine and Coastal Unit, which is part of the Ecosystems Division. The overall objective of this role is to support UNEP in delivering communications deliverables related to marine ecosystems. The specialist will be responsible for managing the Global Fund for Coral Reefs (GFCR) website, ensuring timely updates and engaging content that increases visibility and reach across digital platforms. This includes co-developing and implementing a communications strategy, drafting and designing content, and monitoring engagement metrics. The role also involves developing newsletters, multimedia products, and supporting strategic events and campaigns, all aimed at promoting UNEP's work on marine and coastal ecosystems.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Multimedia and Graphic Design Specialist will have a comprehensive set of responsibilities, including:
  • Managing the GFCR website by ensuring timely updates and co-developing a communications strategy for 2025/202
  • Drafting, designing, and posting compelling content such as graphics, videos, and case studies.
  • Monitoring engagement metrics and preparing monthly analytics reports to recommend optimizations.
  • Planning, writing, and designing quarterly e-newsletters for stakeholders.
  • Coordinating content contributions from various partners and ensuring effective distribution.
  • Conceptualizing and producing multimedia products like infographics and motion graphics.
  • Supporting the roll-out of key campaigns and ensuring consistent messaging across platforms.
  • Contributing to periodic communications reporting to UNEP and the GFCR Steering Committee.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a university degree (master’s or equivalent) in communications, journalism, public relations, or a related field. Alternatively, a first-level university degree combined with two additional years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of an advanced degree. A minimum of two years of progressively responsible experience in communications, public information, media relations, or knowledge management is required, preferably within the environmental or sustainable development sectors. Experience working with multi-disciplinary teams and demonstrated experience in event planning are also essential. Knowledge of website development and social media tools is desirable, along with strong skills in data analysis and reporting on communication metrics.

Educational Background:
The position requires a university degree at the master's level in communications, journalism, public relations, or a related field. A first-level university degree may be accepted if combined with two additional years of relevant experience. This educational background is crucial for understanding the complexities of communication strategies and media relations within the context of environmental issues.

Experience:
The role requires a minimum of two years of progressively responsible experience in communications, public information, media relations, or knowledge management. This experience should preferably be within the environmental or sustainable development sectors, indicating a familiarity with the challenges and opportunities in these fields. Experience in working with multi-disciplinary teams, including both local and expatriate experts, is also necessary to ensure effective collaboration and project execution.

Languages:
Fluency in English is required for this position, as it is one of the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. Fluency in French or other UN languages is considered desirable, enhancing the candidate's ability to communicate effectively in a multilingual environment.
