Job Overview:
The Programme Associate (Nutrition) position at WFP is crucial for supporting the implementation of nutrition programming and technical assistance in Nepal. The role involves working closely with local and provincial governments to enhance their capacity in planning, implementing, and monitoring nutrition programs. The Programme Associate will be responsible for providing technical support, facilitating training, and ensuring that nutrition-sensitive social protection measures are integrated into local government initiatives. This position is vital for addressing malnutrition and improving food security among vulnerable populations in Nepal, particularly in the context of the ongoing challenges posed by climate change and socio-economic factors. The Programme Associate will also engage in advocacy efforts to promote best practices and secure resources for nutrition initiatives, thereby contributing to the overall goals of WFP's country strategic plan.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Programme Associate will have a diverse set of responsibilities, including:
  • Providing technical and operational support to local and provincial governments during the planning, implementation, monitoring, evaluation, and learning phases of nutrition programs.
  • Supporting the development of nutrition programming as part of government annual planning processes.
  • Conducting needs assessments and organizing training workshops to enhance the capacity of government personnel.
  • Participating in training and consultative meetings related to nutrition.
  • Assisting in the development or adaptation of government guidelines and protocols for nutrition programs.
  • Supporting the implementation of the Integrated Management of Acute Malnutrition Programme (IMAM) during emergencies and regular settings.
  • Attending local and provincial government meetings to enhance collaboration and share information.
  • Facilitating support to government and non-government partners in implementing nutrition programs.
  • Monitoring and evaluating nutrition data and providing technical support for reporting and analysis. 1
  • Preparing and submitting periodic progress reports to the government and WFP country office. 1
  • Supporting the development of Concept of Operations for emergency preparedness and response plans. 1
  • Conducting other tasks as required to support the country office's day-to-day activities.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a secondary school education, with a post-secondary certificate in a related functional area or a bachelor's degree in public health, nutrition, or a related field being desirable. Additionally, candidates should have at least six years of experience in Public Health Nutrition or related fields, with a strong background in providing technical assistance at various government levels. Experience in delivering nutrition prevention and treatment programs, as well as skills in negotiation, training, advocacy, and resource mobilization, are essential. Knowledge of UN and government partnerships will be an asset, along with the ability to collaborate effectively with technical teams and engage in policy discussions.

Educational Background:
The educational background required for this position includes completion of secondary school education, with a preference for candidates who have a post-secondary certificate or a bachelor's degree in public health, nutrition, or related fields. This educational foundation is crucial for understanding the complexities of nutrition programming and the socio-economic context in which WFP operates in Nepal.

Experience:
The position requires a minimum of six years of relevant experience in Public Health Nutrition or related fields. Candidates should have experience providing technical assistance at national, provincial, or district levels, and a proven track record in delivering nutrition prevention and treatment programs. Experience in negotiating, training, communications, advocacy, and resource mobilization is also necessary, as well as familiarity with UN and government partnerships.

Languages:
Fluency in both written and spoken Nepali and English is mandatory for this position. Knowledge of local languages will be considered an added value, and proficiency in Nepali typing skills is also an asset. Effective communication in both languages is essential for engaging with government stakeholders and local communities.

The position is a Service Contract (SC) at Level SC L6, with a contract duration of 6 months, which is renewable based on performance and organizational needs.
