Job Overview: The consultant will work within the Economics of Nature Unit in the Ecosystems Division of UN Environment, focusing on the execution of various work packages related to The Economics of Ecosystem and Biodiversity (TEEB) projects. Specifically, the consultant will be involved in the project aimed at enhancing agrobiodiversity through the implementation of the TEEBAgriFood Framework, which is funded by DG INTPA. This project addresses the challenges faced by decision-makers in measuring and valuing the impacts of agroecological approaches on agrobiodiversity. The consultant's role will include providing technical assistance through analytical research, preparing background materials for project consultations, and facilitating stakeholder engagement. The consultant will also support the organization of the project Inception Workshop planned for Q1 2026 in Accra, Ghana, ensuring that all necessary preparations are made to foster effective discussions and decision-making among stakeholders.
Duties and Responsibilities: The consultant's duties and responsibilities will encompass a range of tasks aimed at ensuring the successful implementation of the project. These include:
Conducting stakeholder sensitization and mapping by engaging with key stakeholders such as government officials, line ministries, agri-businesses, farmers' groups, and civil society organizations to inform them about the project and gather their inputs prior to the Inception Workshop.
Preparing background documents for the national project workshop, which will involve creating a comprehensive project summary, reviewing relevant projects and initiatives, analyzing the policy environment regarding food systems and agrobiodiversity in Ghana, mapping stakeholders, and drafting proposals for policy scenarios to be discussed at the workshop.
Providing expert input and coordinating logistics for the workshop, including advising on venue selection, catering, audio-visual needs, and managing participant invitations in collaboration with the TEN team.
Drafting a post-workshop summary report and relevant documentation for the Project Steering Committee (PSC), including proposals for research consortia and meeting minutes following the PSC convening.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a first-level degree with a specialization in environmental studies, sustainable development, economics, agriculture, or related fields. An advanced degree in these areas is considered an advantage. Additionally, a minimum of two years of experience working with governments, NGOs, international organizations, or research institutions on food systems is required. Experience in the Ghanaian agriculture sector and familiarity with the United Nations system are desirable qualifications that will enhance a candidate's suitability for this role.
Educational Background: The educational background required for this position includes a first-level degree in environmental studies, sustainable development, economics, applied economics, agriculture, or related fields.
