Job Overview: The position of Finance Sector Expert (National Consultant) is crucial for the implementation of a finance solution aimed at enhancing biodiversity financing through Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiatives within Banks and Financial Institutions (BFIs) in Nepal. The consultant will be responsible for facilitating the integration of CSR practices into the financial sector, promoting sustainable financing options that support biodiversity conservation. This role requires a deep understanding of both the financial landscape in Nepal and the principles of biodiversity conservation. The consultant will work closely with various stakeholders, including government agencies, financial institutions, and civil society organizations, to develop strategies that align financial practices with environmental sustainability goals. The assignment is expected to run from January 2026 to July 2026, during which the consultant will engage in extensive consultations, workshops, and capacity-building activities to ensure effective implementation of the finance solution.
Duties and Responsibilities: The Finance Sector Expert will have a comprehensive set of responsibilities, including but not limited to:
Conducting a thorough analysis of the current financing landscape in Nepal, particularly focusing on the role of BFIs in biodiversity financing.
Developing and proposing innovative financial products and services that incorporate CSR principles aimed at supporting biodiversity initiatives.
Facilitating workshops and training sessions for financial institutions to enhance their understanding and capacity in biodiversity financing.
Collaborating with stakeholders to create a roadmap for integrating CSR into the operational frameworks of BFIs.
Monitoring and evaluating the impact of implemented strategies on biodiversity financing and CSR practices.
Preparing detailed reports and presentations to communicate findings and recommendations to UNDP and other stakeholders.
Providing ongoing support and guidance to BFIs in the implementation of CSR initiatives related to biodiversity.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a strong background in finance, environmental science, or a related field. A proven track record in working with financial institutions, particularly in the context of CSR and sustainable finance, is essential. Additionally, candidates should demonstrate excellent analytical and communication skills, with the ability to engage effectively with diverse stakeholders. Familiarity with biodiversity issues and sustainable development practices will be highly advantageous. Candidates should also have experience in project management and the ability to work independently as well as part of a team.
Educational Background: A minimum of a Master’s degree in Finance, Environmental Science, Sustainable Development, or a related field is required. Additional certifications or training in CSR, sustainable finance, or biodiversity conservation will be considered an asset. Candidates with a Bachelor’s degree combined with significant relevant experience may also be considered.
Experience: The ideal candidate should have at least 5 years of professional experience in finance, with a specific focus on CSR and sustainable finance practices. Experience working with financial institutions in Nepal or similar contexts is highly desirable. Proven experience in project management, stakeholder engagement, and capacity building is also required. Familiarity with biodiversity financing mechanisms and environmental policies will be beneficial.
Languages: Fluency in English is mandatory, both written and spoken. Proficiency in Nepali or other local languages is considered an asset, as it will facilitate better communication with local stakeholders and communities involved in biodiversity initiatives.

The consultant will be expected to work full-time during this period, with flexibility in working hours as needed to accommodate stakeholder engagements. Compensation will be commensurate with experience and in line with UNDP's consultancy rates.
