Job Overview: The position of Consultant for the Transformative Education Unit focuses on supporting the design and implementation of activities aligned with UNESCO's regional strategy and action plan aimed at preventing and addressing violence in education. This role is particularly crucial in the context of Latin America and the Caribbean, where educational environments are increasingly threatened by various forms of violence, discrimination, and inequality. The consultant will work closely with regional offices and stakeholders to ensure that all students have access to safe and inclusive learning environments. The consultant's work will directly contribute to the strategic objective of ensuring that educational systems are equipped to provide safe, healthy, and inclusive spaces that promote peace and well-being. The consultant will also be responsible for coordinating activities, analyzing data, and producing technical documents that support the implementation of the regional action plan.
Duties and Responsibilities: The consultant will be tasked with several key responsibilities, including:
Planning, coordinating, and executing activities related to the strategic objective of ensuring safe and inclusive learning environments.
Supporting the operational implementation of the Regional Action Plan for the prevention and addressing of violence in the education sector, which includes gathering information from UNESCO offices and regional counterparts, analyzing technical inputs, and coordinating actions across the region.
Updating and consolidating a regional mapping of health and well-being education initiatives implemented by UNESCO offices in 2025, ensuring the organization and periodic validation of this information.
Drafting and producing technical and dissemination documents such as concept notes, newsletters, working papers, publications, and other written products necessary for the implementation and communication of regional actions.
Preparing, reviewing, and following up on project-related documents, including technical inputs, reports, and support materials, in coordination with the Transformative Education Unit and other relevant areas.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a higher university degree in education, public policy, sociology, or another relevant area of social sciences. Additionally, candidates should demonstrate excellent analytical, research, and experience identification skills, as well as a theoretical and practical understanding of the thematic areas related to this consultancy. Strong interpersonal and communication skills are essential, particularly in a professional context, along with excellent presentation skills for various stakeholders. Advanced proficiency in English is required to effectively collaborate with stakeholders from English-speaking Caribbean countries.
Educational Background: A higher university degree in fields such as education, public policy, sociology, or other relevant areas of social sciences is required. A master's degree in education or related fields is considered a desirable qualification that would enhance a candidate's profile for this consultancy role.
Experience: Candidates should have at least 5 years of demonstrated professional experience in areas related to consultancy, particularly in education, public policy, or social sciences. Experience working with international organizations or ministries of education on related topics is highly desirable and will be considered an asset in the selection process.
Languages: Proficiency in English is mandatory, especially for collaboration with stakeholders from English-speaking Caribbean nations. Knowledge of Spanish is also beneficial, given the regional context of the consultancy and the need to communicate effectively with local partners and stakeholders.
