Job Overview:
The Project Officer position at IOM Solomon Islands is pivotal in enhancing the visibility of the organization's programming portfolio, which includes migration, environment and climate change, disaster risk reduction, protection, and labor mobility and social inclusion. The incumbent will work under the supervision of the Programme Manager and the Project Officer, contributing to public outreach and visibility efforts directed towards donors, the public, and government partners. This role involves documenting activities through photography and videography, creating engaging content for social media platforms, and developing informational materials to support IOM's mission. The Project Officer will also be responsible for ensuring that all audiovisual materials are properly archived and that consent forms are utilized appropriately, thereby maintaining compliance with IOM's policies and standards.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The duties and responsibilities of the Project Officer include:
  • Supporting the visibility of IOM Solomon Islands' programming through effective public outreach strategies.
  • Documenting activities via photography and videography during community visits, government meetings, and focus group discussions.
  • Editing and archiving photos and videos in relevant online folders.
  • Assisting in the creation of short video documentaries and stories in collaboration with IOM staff.
  • Developing Information, Education, and Communication (IEC) materials as needed.
  • Recording and editing interviews, providing translation services when necessary.
  • Utilizing drones for recording and developing footage.
  • Creating content for social media platforms, including Facebook and X (Twitter).
  • Ensuring the consistent use and proper filing of audiovisual consent forms. 1
  • Collaborating with colleagues to enhance the overall effectiveness of communication strategies.

Required Qualifications:
The required qualifications for the Project Officer position include:
  • A high school diploma with seven years of relevant experience; or a Bachelor's degree in Development, Communications, Journalism, International Relations, Economics, or a related field from an accredited institution with five years of relevant professional experience.
  • A portfolio showcasing photography and videography work is mandatory.
  • Proficiency in MS Office and photo/video editing applications is essential.
  • Understanding of IOM policies and procedures is advantageous.
  • Strong personal commitment, efficiency, flexibility, and gender sensitivity are required attributes.

Educational Background:
Candidates must possess either a high school diploma with seven years of relevant experience or a Bachelor's degree in a relevant field such as Development, Communications, Journalism, International Relations, or Economics from an accredited academic institution. Accredited institutions are those listed in the UNESCO World Higher Education Database. The educational background should reflect a strong foundation in communication and development principles, which are critical for the role.

Experience:
The position requires at least two years of experience in photography and videography, preferably within an international or intergovernmental organization. Experience in developing communication materials in the Solomon Islands is considered an advantage. Candidates should demonstrate the ability to work effectively and harmoniously with colleagues from diverse cultural and professional backgrounds at all levels, showcasing adaptability and teamwork skills.

Languages:
Fluency in English, both oral and written, is mandatory for this position. A working knowledge of Pijin is desirable, as it may enhance communication with local communities. IOM's official languages include English, French, and Spanish, and proficiency in these languages will be evaluated during the selection process, which may include written and/or oral assessments.

The position is subject to local recruitment, meaning only candidates holding a valid residence and work permit for the Solomon Islands will be considered. The appointment will also require certification of medical fitness, verification of residency, visa, and necessary authorizations by the relevant government authorities.
