Job Overview: The UN Volunteer Partnerships Specialist will play a crucial role in supporting UNICEF Malawi's resource mobilization efforts, focusing on innovative financing mechanisms to address the core deprivations affecting children's well-being and rights. This position requires a strategic approach to identify and secure funding from both public and private sectors, including non-traditional sources. The specialist will work closely with various program sections to implement financing mechanisms that align with UNICEF's programmatic goals, such as climate financing and debt restructuring. The role also involves developing partnerships with international financial institutions and managing high-value partnerships to leverage resources effectively. The specialist will contribute to the overall planning and reporting processes within the Malawi Office, ensuring that resource mobilization strategies are aligned with UNICEF's global guidelines and priorities.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Resource Mobilization: Identify and incorporate strategies to secure financing from all sectors, including non-traditional sources, into the Malawi Office Resource Mobilization Plan. Work with program sections to implement financing mechanisms that align with UNICEF Malawi's priority goals. Update and implement the private sector mapping and strategic action plan. Explore and develop alternative fundraising initiatives, especially in emergency situations.
Partnership Development and Management: Support the strengthening of partnerships and identify new opportunities with international financial institutions. Manage high-value partnerships, providing intelligence on non-traditional partnership opportunities. Facilitate partnerships that leverage business expertise and technology to advance children's rights.
Internal Coordination and Capacity Building: Strengthen the capacity of the Malawi Office in identifying and developing opportunities with alternative financing mechanisms. Support the rollout of UNICEF’s Business For Results methodology. Contribute to office-wide planning and resource mobilization deliverables.
Leveraging Global and Regional Partnerships: Ensure alignment with UNICEF global guidelines and maximize partnership opportunities from regional and global offices.
Volunteer Engagement: Integrate the UN Volunteers programme mandate within the assignment and promote voluntary action through community engagement. Dedicate time to strengthen knowledge of volunteerism and participate in UNV activities.
Required Qualifications: The ideal candidate should possess a strong understanding of resource mobilization strategies, particularly in the context of international development and humanitarian aid. They should have experience in partnership development, particularly with international financial institutions and non-traditional donors. Strong analytical skills and the ability to develop innovative financing strategies are essential. The candidate should also demonstrate excellent interpersonal skills, with the ability to work collaboratively in a multicultural environment. A proactive approach to problem-solving and the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously are crucial for success in this role.
Educational Background: A bachelor's degree in international relations, development studies, finance, or a related field is required. A master's degree in a relevant discipline is preferred. The educational background should provide a solid foundation in the principles of resource mobilization, partnership development, and international development frameworks.
Experience: Candidates should have at least 3-5 years of relevant experience in resource mobilization, partnership development, or a related field within an international organization or NGO. Experience working with international financial institutions and understanding of innovative financing mechanisms is highly desirable. Familiarity with UNICEF's mission and programs will be an advantage.
Languages: Fluency in English is mandatory, as it is the working language of UNICEF. Knowledge of Chichewa or other local languages is considered an asset, as it can enhance communication and engagement with local communities and stakeholders.
Additional Notes: This position is a full-time UN Volunteer role, and the contract duration is typically for one year, with the possibility of extension based on performance and funding availability. The role requires a commitment to UNICEF's mission and values, including a genuine commitment to volunteerism and community engagement. Volunteers will receive a monthly living allowance, health insurance, and other benefits as per UNV guidelines.
