Job Overview: The Human Resources Assistant plays a crucial role in supporting the HR functions within the UNCTAD. Duties and Responsibilities: The Human Resources Assistant will be responsible for a wide range of duties, including but not limited to: liaising with divisions on recruitment and personnel matters; participating in candidate selection processes; creating job openings in the Inspira system; coordinating onboarding for new hires; organizing assessments; maintaining job opening files; advising staff on HR-related issues; processing requests for contract extensions and special allowances; assisting in staff development and training; maintaining HR automated systems; supporting HR projects; conducting research on HR issues; providing general office support; and training new staff. The HR Assistant will also be expected to monitor deadlines and ensure that all HR processes are completed in a timely manner.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a high school diploma or equivalent. Formal HR training is desirable. The position requires a minimum of seven years of progressively responsible experience in human resources management or related areas. This requirement is reduced to five years for candidates with a first-level university degree or higher. Experience in the UN system or similar international organizations is highly desirable, particularly in HR functions. Familiarity with ERP applications for HR purposes and electronic recruitment platforms like Inspira is also preferred. Additionally, experience in data management and analysis, as well as organizing training sessions, is beneficial.
Educational Background: A high school diploma or equivalent is required for this position. Candidates with a first-level university degree or higher will have a reduced experience requirement. Formal training in human resources is considered an asset and may enhance a candidate's application.
Experience: The role requires a minimum of seven years of progressively responsible experience in human resources management, administrative services, or a related area. For candidates with a first-level university degree or higher, the minimum experience requirement is five years. At least four years of experience working in a human resources team within the UN system or a similar international organization is desirable. Experience with electronic recruitment platforms and data analysis is also preferred, along with a background in organizing training or workshops.
Languages: English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat, and both are required for this position. Candidates must demonstrate proficiency in reading, writing, listening, and speaking in both languages. Additionally, knowledge of Spanish, Arabic, Russian, or Chinese (Mandarin) is considered desirable, although not mandatory. The UN Language Framework outlines the required proficiency levels for each language skill.

Extensions will depend on the availability of funding, the continuing need for the service, and satisfactory performance.
