Job Overview: This internship is situated within the Office of the Chief of Staff at the United Nations Mission in Kosovo. The primary goal of this internship is to assist in fulfilling the responsibilities of the Office of the Chief of Staff, which includes ensuring the effective functioning of integrated procedures and systems for information analysis and management across the mission. The intern will play a crucial role in enhancing the mission's strategic and operational planning, particularly in preparing various plans for the upcoming financial year. This includes contributing to performance monitoring efforts, specifically in relation to operational impact assessments. The internship is set to commence in June 2026 and will last for an initial period of three months, with the possibility of extension for an additional three months. The intern will also engage in various tasks aimed at strengthening the connection between the mission's programmatic activities and the Comprehensive Planning and Performance Assessment System (CPAS), as well as assisting with data collection tasks.
Duties and Responsibilities: The intern will be responsible for a wide range of duties, including but not limited to:
Contributing to the preparation of draft plans for the next financial year, which involves compiling inputs from various offices for the draft 2027-2028 Travel and Training Plan, and gathering information on proposed results-based budgeting (RBB) outputs and indicators for the same period.
Assisting in the collection and review of final project reports from the mission's programmatic activities implemented in FY 2025-26, and producing summaries of key achievements.
Supporting the programmatic activities focal point in comparing final project reports with agreed project proposals and monitoring and evaluation (M&E) frameworks.
Aiding in the finalization of annual performance reports for RBB outputs and indicators, as well as the SRSG’s Compact Performance Report.
Assisting in clearing the backlog of recommendations within the CPAS by compiling status updates on their implementation.
Monitoring the implementation of CPAS impact and outcome indicators.
Collaborating with relevant offices to collect and disaggregate data from programmatic activities, including statistics on community engagement.
Reviewing guidelines and standard operating procedures (SOPs) through background research to provide potential solutions.
Performing any additional tasks as directed by the Mission Planning Officer.
Required Qualifications: The ideal candidate should possess knowledge of Microsoft Excel and project management principles. Strong analytical skills and the ability to work collaboratively in a team environment are essential. The intern should demonstrate a proactive approach to problem-solving and possess excellent organizational skills to manage multiple tasks effectively. Additionally, the candidate should be adaptable and willing to learn about the United Nations' operations and procedures.
Educational Background: Candidates for this internship should be enrolled in a graduate program or have recently completed a degree in a relevant field such as international relations, public administration, business administration, or a related discipline. A strong academic background and a keen interest in the workings of international organizations, particularly the United Nations, are highly desirable.
Experience: While prior work experience is not mandatory for this internship, any relevant experience in project management, data analysis, or administrative support will be considered an asset. Interns should demonstrate a willingness to learn and engage with the mission's activities and objectives.
Languages: Fluency in English, both oral and written, is required for this position. Knowledge of additional languages, particularly those spoken in the region, would be considered an advantage but is not mandatory.
