Job Overview:
The Principal Manager (PM) is tasked with overseeing the delivery of the Advice for Small Businesses (ASB) activities within Nigeria. This role involves developing comprehensive annual business plans and leading a local team to execute these plans in alignment with the EBRD's strategic priorities for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs). The PM is responsible for managing the entire project lifecycle, from conception to evaluation, ensuring that advisory activities are in line with EBRD investment priorities. The position requires maintaining strong relationships with internal teams and external stakeholders, including the local business community, financial institutions, and government entities. The PM is expected to embody the Bank's ethical standards and promote a culture of integrity within the team.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Principal Manager will lead the implementation of the ASB annual operational plan, setting objectives and operational targets in collaboration with the Regional Associate Director. Key responsibilities include conceptualizing and executing business development activities to enhance outreach to quality clients, managing the project portfolio, and ensuring the delivery of high-quality advisory services. The PM will engage with external stakeholders to identify SME development needs and lead initiatives that support these needs. Additionally, the PM will oversee the donor-funded budget, ensuring efficient and transparent management of funds. The role also involves recruiting, training, and developing team members to maintain a high-performing workplace, while fostering productive relationships within the organization and adhering to the Bank's behavioral competencies.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a BA or MA from a recognized institution in international development, economics, business, or a related field, along with equivalent work experience. Strong people management skills, including recruitment and mentoring, are essential. The ideal candidate will have robust business and financial analytical skills, effective communication and negotiation abilities, and the capacity to manage relationships with various stakeholders. Diplomatic skills are crucial for maintaining strong connections with local government officials and international organizations. Project management and organizational skills are also required, along with fluency in English and local languages, both written and verbal.

Educational Background:
A relevant educational background is critical for this position, with a preference for candidates holding a BA or MA in international development, economics, business, or a related field. The educational qualifications should be complemented by practical experience in similar roles, demonstrating a solid understanding of the financial and business landscape.

Experience:
Extensive professional experience is required, ideally from sectors such as commercial management consultancy, banking, or donor organizations. Candidates should have a strong background in the financial industry, including experience in bank lending, private equity, or early-stage investing. Leadership experience in managing teams and performance management is also essential, along with knowledge of EBRD's strategic SME priority areas such as green economy, economic inclusion, and digitalization.

Languages:
Fluency in English is mandatory, along with proficiency in local languages. Strong writing skills in both English and local languages are desirable, particularly in the context of proposal writing and report generation.
