Job Overview:
The Senior Investment Officer position at the IFC Tokyo Office is a pivotal role that involves leading and supporting the office's priorities related to sector strategy, deal structuring guidance, and global client relationship management. This position is integral to the Tokyo Business Development Hub and reports directly to the Director of the Tokyo Office. The officer will be responsible for developing a client engagement strategy, managing relationships with key clients and stakeholders, and acting as the focal investment specialist for Japanese clients in the energy transition sector, including renewable power, battery storage, and emerging technologies such as hydrogen and ammonia. The role also encompasses the metals and minerals sectors, where the officer will identify and generate leads, nurture relationships, and promote awareness of IFC's offerings. The position requires a proactive approach to knowledge management and participation in World Bank Group initiatives and events related to energy and metals/minerals for transition.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The duties and responsibilities of the Senior Investment Officer include:
  • Contributing to the development of a client engagement strategy tailored to the energy and metals/minerals sectors.
  • Supporting the Director of the Tokyo Office in managing relationships with key clients and stakeholders.
  • Acting as the focal investment specialist for Japanese clients, providing support in business development related to energy transition, renewable power, battery storage, and new technologies.
  • Identifying and generating leads from Japanese clients in the specified sectors.
  • Developing and nurturing relationships with key clients in the energy and metals/minerals sectors to promote IFC's offerings.
  • Collaborating with global industry teams and client relationship managers to support client engagement and business development.
  • Contributing to knowledge sharing and dissemination across IFC’s industry team regarding Japanese clients’ activities.
  • Leading or supporting World Bank Group initiatives and IFC participation in relevant events.
  • Liaising with financial institutions to create frameworks for transition bonds.

Required Qualifications:
The required qualifications for the Senior Investment Officer position include:
  • An MBA or Master’s degree in business, finance, or economics.
  • A minimum of 12 to 15 years of experience in business development, project finance, and investment banking, with a strong network and credibility within business and governmental communities.
  • Proven experience in client coverage and business development with Japanese private sectors.
  • Strong analytical skills and sound business judgment, with a good 'deal sense.'
  • Ability to develop innovative solutions and challenge the status quo to build the business.
  • Experience in managing diverse project teams and dealing with investors and multiple stakeholders.
  • Strong financial, analytical, and modeling skills, with the ability to find creative solutions to accommodate different interests.
  • Experience in reviewing legal documents and/or technical studies is a plus.
  • Excellent communication skills in both English and Japanese, with the ability to convey ideas clearly.

Educational Background:
Candidates must possess an MBA or a Master’s degree in business, finance, or economics to qualify for the Senior Investment Officer position. This educational background is essential to ensure that the candidate has the necessary theoretical knowledge and analytical skills required for the role.
