Job Overview:
The Family Support Specialist position is a full-time, permanent role within the Mt Isa After Hours (MIAH) program, which is part of the Domestic Family Violence Specialist Support Service in Mount Isa. The role involves working closely with the Queensland Police Service to provide after-hours responses, operating on a roster from 2pm to 10pm, seven days a week, with potential on-call requirements. The specialist will be responsible for providing holistic case management and support to vulnerable and disadvantaged clients, particularly those experiencing domestic, family, or sexual violence. The position requires a compassionate, client-centered approach, with a focus on ensuring that the voices of children and young people are heard and that their needs are prioritized. The specialist will also be expected to identify client strengths, establish goals, and promote skills that enhance health, safety, and development.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The duties and responsibilities of the Family Support Specialist include:
  • Providing holistic case management to vulnerable and disadvantaged clients, ensuring that their needs are met and that they receive appropriate support.
  • Delivering outreach case management for individuals experiencing domestic, family, or sexual violence, ensuring that they have access to necessary resources and assistance.

Required Qualifications:
The position requires the following qualifications:
  • Demonstrated experience in case management, particularly in the context of domestic and family violence support.
  • Knowledge of relevant legislation and policies related to domestic and family violence.
  • Understanding of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities and families, with a commitment to culturally sensitive practice.
  • Strong report writing, analytical, and evaluation skills, including the ability to collate and analyze data effectively.
  • A tertiary qualification in a relevant field, such as social work, psychology, or community services, or significant experience working in a similar service.
