Job Overview: The Communications Contractor position is located within the United Nations Information Centre (UNIC) in Mexico City, specifically in the Information Centres Service (ICS) of the Campaigns and Country Operations Division (CCOD) of the Department of Global Communications (DGC). The role is crucial for designing a communications plan and key products for the UN Mexico Results Report. The incumbent will contribute to the development of a new UN Mexico Communications strategy, which includes planning and implementing communications activities and public information products. This position also involves conducting a needs assessment for the UN Communications Group (UNCG) to enhance their capacities in implementing the UN Communications Strategy, particularly in the area of Information Integrity. The contractor will be responsible for creating public information content for various platforms, including web, social media, and media outlets, aligning with UN International Days and key reports. The role requires close collaboration with the Director of UNIC Mexico and other stakeholders to ensure effective communication of the UN's work and initiatives in Mexico.
Duties and Responsibilities: The incumbent will be responsible for several key duties and responsibilities, including:
Developing an agreed UN Results Report communications plan targeting key audiences through various formats such as human-interest stories, news articles, and bulletins.
Monitoring mis/disinformation trends in Mexico and contributing to interagency initiatives aimed at combating misinformation and hate speech.
Conducting a needs assessment of UNCG capacities to implement the planned activities, including the positioning of the UN Results Report and Information Integrity.
Designing tools, training, and mechanisms to enhance cohesive and effective UN action in these areas.
Contributing to the design of a UN Information Integrity workplan and identifying necessary tools and mechanisms.
Creating public information content for various platforms, ensuring alignment with UN International Days and key reports.
Collaborating with local and regional partners to promote the UN's work effectively.
Required Qualifications: The position requires a first-level university degree in communications, journalism, international relations, or a related field. Additionally, candidates must have five years of experience in communication, including writing for web and social media or mass media. Proven experience in developing digital content and creating multimedia materials for social media is essential. Candidates should also have experience in graphic design, including creating infographics and promotional materials for both print and digital platforms. Proficiency in graphic design tools such as Photoshop, Illustrator, and/or InDesign is required, along with the ability to capture and edit high-quality photographs during events. Fluency in Microsoft Office programs, including Excel, Word, and PowerPoint, is also necessary. Previous experience with United Nations agencies or similar international organizations is desirable.
Educational Background: Candidates must possess a first-level university degree in communications, journalism, international relations, or a related field.
