Job Overview:
The Computing Technician position at CERN involves taking ownership of the supervision and coordination of the deployment of telecom and structured cabling infrastructure across CERN's various sites. This dynamic role requires the individual to manage the complete workflow efficiently and in accordance with CERN's high standards. The technician will be responsible for translating end-user requirements into practical solutions, producing and validating technical plans, and liaising with contractors and internal stakeholders to ensure the successful execution of projects. Regular on-site inspections will be conducted to verify the progress and quality of installations, making this role crucial for maintaining the integrity of CERN's infrastructure.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The duties and responsibilities of the Computing Technician include supervising and coordinating work requests related to structured cabling and telecom infrastructure in various CERN facilities. The technician will translate end-user requirements into workable solutions, produce and validate technical documentation, and manage contractor quotations and administrative procedures. Regular communication with users regarding project costs and progress updates is essential. The technician will also chair or attend coordination meetings with contractors and stakeholders, ensuring safe and efficient worksite execution. On-site inspections will be a key responsibility to verify installation quality and adherence to technical specifications and safety rules.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a higher technical diploma or equivalent relevant experience in Telecommunications, Information & Communication Technologies, Electric, or a related field. Demonstrated experience in supervising telecom and network structured cabling installations is required, along with the ability to capture end-user requirements effectively. Experience in coordinating contractors on technical worksites and performing quality checks in line with safety rules is essential. Strong communication skills and the ability to interact constructively with various stakeholders are also necessary for this role.

Educational Background:
The position requires a higher technical diploma or equivalent experience in a relevant field such as Telecommunications, Information & Communication Technologies, or Electric. This educational background is crucial for understanding the technical aspects of the job and ensuring effective communication with contractors and stakeholders.

Experience:
Candidates should have demonstrated experience in supervising telecom and network structured cabling installations, including routing, testing, and certification. Experience in coordinating contractors and performing on-site inspections is also necessary. The ability to produce, read, and validate technical documentation is essential, along with a proactive approach to identifying and resolving on-site issues.

Languages:
Fluency in spoken and written French is mandatory, with a commitment to learning English being a valuable asset. Proficiency in English will enhance communication with international teams and stakeholders.

Additional Notes:
This position is a limited duration contract for 5 years, with the possibility of extension up to 8 years and eligibility for an indefinite contract. The role requires full-time commitment with 40 hours of work per week, and it is fully onsite. The position involves working in radiation areas and underground installations, necessitating a valid driving license. There may also be requirements for stand-by duty and work during nights, Sundays, and official holidays as needed by the organization. The job grade is classified as 3-4, and the reference for this position is IT-CS-DO-2025-260-LD.
