Job Overview:

Interns will work full-time, either remotely or in-person, and are expected to contribute to the UNCTAD Statistics Service (STAT) by assisting in statistical compilation, dissemination, and analysis. The internship will tentatively commence on November 25, 2025, for an initial period of three months, with the possibility of extension up to six months based on departmental needs. Interns will receive training and mentoring throughout their tenure, allowing them to enhance their educational experience while gaining valuable insights into the workings of the UN.

Duties and Responsibilities:
Interns will be tasked with a variety of responsibilities, including but not limited to: maintaining and updating UNCTADstat and other databases through automated coding solutions; assisting in the organization of meetings and preparation of documentation; conducting analyses and contributing to report writing; and supporting outreach activities and project implementation. Interns are expected to adhere to the rules and regulations of the UN, respect confidentiality, and refrain from any conduct that could negatively impact the organization. They will also be required to provide copies of all materials prepared during the internship and assist in securing property rights for any work produced.

Required Qualifications:
Applicants must meet specific qualifications to be considered for the internship. They should be enrolled in or have completed a graduate program (second university degree or equivalent) or be in the final academic year of a first university degree program (minimum bachelor's level) in a relevant field such as statistics, mathematics, or economics. Additionally, candidates should demonstrate computer literacy in standard software applications, a keen interest in the UN's work, and the ability to interact effectively with individuals from diverse cultural backgrounds. No prior work experience is required, but familiarity with command-line statistics programs (like R or Python) and experience in data processing and statistical analysis are desirable.

Educational Background:
The educational background required for this internship includes enrollment in or completion of a graduate program or being in the final year of a bachelor's degree in a field related to statistics, mathematics, or economics. This educational foundation is essential for understanding the statistical and analytical tasks that interns will be expected to perform during their time at UNCTAD.

Experience:
While no formal work experience is necessary to apply for the internship, candidates should possess relevant academic training or coursework that aligns with the internship's focus. Languages:

Additional Notes:
This internship is unpaid, and all costs related to travel, accommodation, medical insurance, and living expenses are the responsibility of the intern. Interns must have a valid visa for in-person internships and are expected to work full-time, five days a week.
